I am considering getting back into racing with a Porsche Cup (what I used to race) or a 458 challenge. I want to race as much as possible so interested in other races like SCCA or other series in the US.

Does anyone here race outside of challenge series? If SCCA what class GT2 or GT3?

Any other well run series or regional races? (I am in California)

Can the challenge car be modified to be competitive in a pro race like Grand AM?

    Thanks!

Take a look the challenge club race ( CCR ) We race ferraris in the US. Give Peter a call at Universal Autosport . They have a 9 car team . We just finished racing at Sebring.
There was a field of 30 cars. Check CCR website .
    I hope this help you.
    Thanks
    Alex.

    CCR doesn't race 458's.

Thanks Nico. Probably not right for me unless I get a 430 but I appreciate the info.

So far it seems Porsche Cup would provide more potential for established racing.

I laid the groundwork a couple of years ago and SCCA has indicated they would allow the 458 to run in Super touring Over (STO). Since then they have reshuffled the rulebook and moved those car either up or down a class. If you really want to run it in SCCA, PM me and I will bring you up to speed and tell you who to talk to.

Would this be for a 458 street car (modified with safety equipment) or the 458 Challenge car?

A 997.2 Cup would probably offer more out of the box options.

I am unsure about SCCA, but quite a few folks who race 430's in CCR have run NASA Super Unlimited class, though I am unsure what the rules on 458C's might be. (Paul Prideaux might be a good person to ask, he's done both and is very hands-on and DIY).

I would suspect that IF you are going to race a 458 you'll want the challenge car, modifying a road car to fit the rules would be possible but outrageously complex and expensive. Based on my (limited so far) 458C experience, it's also far from being a DIY type of vehicle unless you're an experienced Ferrari tech.

The 458GA is a fundamentally different car than the 458C (engine, gearbox, suspension, brakes, et al).

Thanks. I wouldn't take a street car and modify it. I was just asking a clarification to the earlier post of the STO class.

Yes, there seems to be far more racing options for a Porsche GT3 Cup than 458C.

SCCA would allow either car, but the 458C is the way to go of course. The 458 bumps into a few class rules (only 6 forward gears for example) but SCCA has been willing to work with us to get Ferrari's out there. Until they outlaw them of course, but that's another story.
