I currently have a 430 spyder 6 speed. I love the car and have owned it for 3 years. It has 6500 miles, is in perfect shape, and drives great. I have 2 other exotics as well. I am now purchasing a 458. Is there any reason to keep the 430 aside for the convertible? I think it's wasteful to have 2 ferrari's of the same vein (insurance, maintenance, etc) if I will find myself driving the 458 all the time. I do love the gated gear box too. Thoughts from people who were in this position?

I'd keep both (if you can afford it) simply because it's the last manual.

If it were an F1 I would say there is no reason. I traded my F430 spider in and to be honest, the only thing I miss is the pop top. The 458 does just about everything better.

I have a 2008 Porsche GT2 and a 2006 Ford GT. All three are very different cars. All are manual gear boxes. Each one incredible in their own way.

i have been thinking of this same issue.
if one had a 430 spider (and i do) and was upgrading to the 458 coupe, i would consider keeping both vehicles.
however, if you plan to get the 458 spider (which is the case with me), it makes less sense to keep the 430.

There is not a lot of demand for the 6 speed, they are much harder to sell and take a bigger price hit than an F1 car, if you get a decent offer TAKE IT FAST.

It's a matter of money only. If you have enough: keep both.

but i once had 2 430s and a scud at the same time, so that makes it 3 430s and an incoming 458, but im a dumbass, dont throw away ur money. just keep ONE 458.

That's a nice collection. Indeed quite different. I too have a Ford GT and a F458. I think with the GT being a manual, unless you really want a convertible, or the money is not an issue, I'd sell the 430 spider. They continue to depreciate quite a bit. When the 458 spider is more readily available, they'll probably go down in value more. The 458 is really a lot more car than the 430. Maybe you'd rather wait and get a 458 spider?

Either way, enjoy the 3 cars. Great collection.

Depends on the market, according to the latest 'EVO magazine' 430 buyers guide, 6 speed manual is now likely to be running at a slight premium in the UK over F1 used prices. The experience of buying and selling my manual 430 was similar, paid the same as for an identical F1 car on the same forecourt and had no problem to sell it and got at least as much as similar F1 cars. Given the original £6k saving on the purchase price of the car this would suggest you might be wrong, at least in some countries!

+1. The 6 speed is one option that some buyers must have. I have friends that were looking that were willing to buy a variety of color combos if the manual car checked out. With so few on the market, they can absolutely demand a premium. Maybe more so as a spider.

The F430 6-speed, with its classic gated shifter, will always offer a different driving experience than the DCT, which is superb. In that sense it will be more authentic in a purist sense. But technology marches on, and the nature of the cars is changing. I predict that in 10 years your F430 6-speed will be desirable in its own right as it transits to "classic Ferrari" -- the last of the manuals. And since only 5% came that way, it will be a rare bird.

Don't worry about what other people think. You will enjoy both.

If your getting a coupe I would keep it. If your were ordering a spider there would be no point, unless you had to have a 6 speed convertible. Since you collectively have another 12 gears to row through in the garage, go for the italia and get rid of the spider. I don't know the particulars like space and budget. In many cases it comes down to space. It's that way in my case. Now I can't go buy any car I want but I could certainly have another f car or Porsche if the garage space suddenly doubled. If all fit and money isn't a real problem(some just don't like having too much tied up in cars) keep all of them.

There are a lot of possile variables here.

    Hi,
If I may give an opinion please?
Not finding myself in your situation I can say I love the 360 spider, I loved at my first drive the 430 spider & most of all I loved me first drive of the 458 spider, NORMAL you would say & so would I but you see I am not in your situation & as much as I love the 430 .. for me it’s the 458 spider. Thanks for the time to speak. Good luck!
