I have been reading a lot and it has been very helpful. Thank you guys. This is my first post. I hope to purchase my first ferrari in near future. Perhaps 355... After I buy the car, who can I use to maintain the ferrari in monterey peninsula area? I am mechanically challenged so I need a good mechanic.

Although he is not an official "Ferrari Mechanic", Classic Coachworks in downtown Monterey re-built my transmission two years ago. They did a first class job on it and were very resonable on the prices. We asked several local sports car owners for recommendations and they recommended CC without any hesitation.

Fiorano Motors near the Airport will do a great job. They handle alot of repairs during the Concorso and Monterey Historics. They are even on-call during Sundays during the concorso/Historics weekend.

I posed the same question several mos ago r/e repairs on the Mont peninsula and Fiorano came up as a possible; one guy later PM'd me about a bad experience with them. Anybody have any PERSONAL, recent experience with them or any other facility in the Monterey/Santa Cruz area?

thanks for the info. Anyone else have experience with Classic Coachworks? And what model Ferrari did you let them work on? I am planning to purchase a 328 or 355. Have not decided yet.

if I get a 355, it would be gtb or gts 6 speed. I am not an open car person. The preferable color would be red/tan since it would be my first ferrari. The problem is I still have not been inside a moving ferrari. I've been inside ferraris that are parked that is about it. I've been to the Concorso Italiano few times and after that event, I get all pumped up. And I start to calculate my finances and stuff. After few weeks, I calm down and start to think with my brain again. I had a 993 which I liked a lot then sold for a bmw 740. I want to go back to sports car again. And perhaps I can try for a ferrari this time.

Are you aware of the 355's problem with their headers?
Before you buy a used one, don't forget to check it for cracks.

That was most likely me--if it was more like at least a year or more ago. I PMd somebody about Fiorano, which is essentially John Bagioli (because most people do not work for him for very long). New evidence of the bad work done on the ground-up restoration of my Maserati Bora has surfaced since I wrote that info.

I sold the Bora to a gentlemen in Kentucky. I had made the car as close to perfect as possible before shipping it. However, the person that did the last of the work pointed out that it had an oil leak at the valve cover was created by John trying to fix a previous leak by sandwiching two gaskets together. Didn't work. Although John denies it, I saw this kludge myself. Also, the last mechanic pointed out that although the carb linkage had been bead-blasted, the linkage was never painted or primed and was rusting up. The mechanic also found that the tranny fluid was never changed in the course of the restoration.

As I might have mentioned before, the fellow who painted the car (Dave Smith of Salinas) said that the Bora job was the first and last time he would ever work with John Bagiola.

Finally, and worst of all, the engine and transmission started developing problems after delivery to the new owner. He had a mechanic in his area take apart the engine. The results were sent to me via email, and in May of 2005 I showed these emails to a mechanic in whom I have a lot of trust. He pronounced the failure by John to do certain things as a part of an engine overhaul as unacceptible.

John never sent me a final tally of all the work performed, which is a violation of California state law. When I called the dept of cumsumer affairs (Bureau of Automotive Repairs) a couple years ago while I was repeatedly reminding John to send the final bill, I found that he was NOT licensed.

I believe the John has the talent and mechanical knowhow to work on cars, and he's a real nice guy, but he is (or was) a flake. He has problems. Maybe he has addressed these problems. Maybe he's got his act together after pissing off many, many people.

I have heard of someone else in Monterey who is an excellent mechanic. Maybe that is the one mentioned elsewhere in this thread.
