    I'm about to have a car shipped from Italy to me in NY and wonder if I'm being penny wise / pound foolish by not spending double and going for container? Or is RO/RO a reasonably safe way to go? My first time shipping a car so could use some input, thanks all - Rich

    Depends on the car IMO. ro/ro requires handling of the vehicle several times during it's journey, each instance of which has a chance of minor damage. If it's a modern car and it's easy to get scuffs and underbody pieces repaired, it might be worth the saving. If it's a rare, unrestored older car where even minor repairs are going to make a difference in its value to you, then container would be worth it. To me, it would come down to the cost of the two methods relative to the value of the car. If container is less than double ro/ro, I'd go for the piece of mind of container.

    Sage advice, I think I will go container which is just under double the price.

    I had my 456 roro'd across the Pacific, and done a few cars besides. No issues. You get good insurance; most stevedores are pros.
