lung and SFchallenge, have you been up there before? I remebered that there were some 365 Daytonas in the Hong Seh garage, all wrapped up in plastics. Besides, there were also F40s and F50s too! There were also left-hand drives Ferrari 360 in the garage.
I know that they have 550 left hand drive, F50, F40, Dino, etc. But those are cars which they should have. its more a warehouse rather than a showroom. U can ask Ben to take u up there if u want. Take the blue lift up.
"The newly imported Stradale propelled Ferrari sales to 10 by May." Quote from Straits Times 9th August 2004. I already saw 3 on the road.. (01) Light blue colour, (02) Red and (03) Dark Blue colour
The second floor garage is a reminder of better time for Alfie...the heady days when he was dealing with the Sultan..... so there aren't that many "new models" majority are Diablos from the previous dealership before they lost it to Melvin.... The only nice thing that caught my eye was the Cizeta, in the corner...they had two 8 series Alpinas that they quitely let go to a malaysian buyer...other than that there is a SL Brabus...hmmn trying to recall....i heard there were inded two Mclarens enroute to Brunei long time ago...but Mclarens hmmn too much hype...sat in one as passenger 3-4 years back was not too impressed with it...felt very twitchy.... Congrats Lung on your 355....they still sound the best... and i have indeed heard a capristo on the 360...makes it sound like a 355, the tubi on a 360 does not sound good at all, no thrill factor...
Hi Gents - I was in Singapore on September 20 and 21. Didn't see any F-cars, but did encounter a meeting of Lambo's at me hotel late on the evening of the 20th! My camera was far away in my room, so no picture's I'm afraid. Enjoyed my stay! Regards, MARK
Mark, which hotel were u staying at? sorry guys still no time to take photos... I don't want to take garage photos. gotta find a nice location. Which are the good locations in Singapore to take photos with car?? i.e. botanic gardens? (sounds like a new thread)
I was @ the Lentor reservoir stretch that separates the Straits of JB? It can be scenic on evening/sunrise with the JB skyline & water. Drive all the way pass the Orchid Country Club & you'll get there. There's another stretch @ Choa Chu Kang as well & you need to drive pass Sungei Kadut or from Lim Chu Kang. The carparks @ Changi beach is not too bad & you can get some with the airport behind as well. Wait, there is one exotic place. You know the Seletar Airbase? Absolutely serene & lots of greenery. It's like driving through an English country side with colonial bungalows, hills & grass. Call me if you're going there, I feel like going there again as I write.
Jon, Sorry just realise I cannot go today... got golf later. Going thru a bad patch with my drive. But lets do something soon. lung
hi newbie here from Singapore as well! P-car fanatic with childhood dream to eventually own a ferrari. I especially like the 355 - I drove one recently and it sounded amazing...not that I didn't know that from before because everytime a ferrari drives past I'd wind down my windows to enjoy the noise...my family think I'm nuts. the 360s I've heard in general don't sound like that though I did drive behind one yesterday (red360spider) and he had that sound..the....wwwwwwoooooooaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAA if you know what I mean. Does not sound like the tubi that I've heard on a friend's 360 before. Had a couple of opportunities in the past to to buy a 355 but somehow always felt that my heart was lying to me and I should go with my head instead and get something 'sensible' that could also fulfil daily commute needs and be fun when I wanted it to be...the 996 I thought could give me that. After experiencing the 355 I think the 996 falls a bit short in the fun driving aspects in comparison. It is a great car, the 996 - super reliable, fast, safe and super comfortable... but I have the feeling that when one is in the mood for real fun the 355 would be more engaging to drive. True? Anyone here know how many 355s are there in Singapore, and whether it is a car worth keeping for a long time? I'm willing to commit a reasonable amount of resources to maintain it but any idea what it would cost to firstly refurbish it to almost new condition - exterior/interior/mechanicals/suspension/brakes, and to keep it running daily after that? random events like electronic failures will happen I understand but do these random events happen more regularly than randomly?i.e. what is the expert's view on what my 'reasonable amount' to maintain a 355 be? Any views/advice/pictures appreciated! Cheers! 3355
there are going to be less and less 355 around now especially when it reaches its 10 year lifespan.... 2 were just exported recently, 1 spyder is more or less going to be written off and i am sure there are more to be exported soon. Last i heard there is less than 10 in Singapore including thos few i mentioned, a few are seldom driven in fact, parked in as a garage queen. well that's my take on it. ask lung, he should know alot as he just did a beautiful job on his new 355B. I would be quick and source for one fast before there are no good ones left... I think there is one 97 spyder in autobahn last week , can check it out. hope the info is helpful and please excuse me if i am wrong...... cheers....
I think the number of 355s are as follows: 355GTB = 5 (maybe 4 coz i was told one just got exported). 355GTS = 2 355 Spyder = There were 3 just 3 months ago...one was written off after accident and one was exported so... i guess there must be only 1 left. I believe the most of the cars are pretty well looked after. But check with Hong Seh workshop. They have records of the cars. I can only speak from my experience... When I picked up my car I knew that the 1. front suspension needed a new actuator, 2. it needed a service i.e. oil change, filter, check seals, etc. and 3. it needed to be retuned 4. the tires were old and had a cut on the sidewall and therefore needed to be changed. Well thats not all... as I want the car to be in perfect condition...I'll probably drop the engine for timing belt change in December. At the sametime, I'll probably get the suspension changed too...bushings and shocks. What I trying to say is... its not going to be a cheap car to run if u want to keep it perfect. Just my thoughts.... lung
Lung, I was at the Conrad Centennial Singapore - http://singapore.conradmeetings.com/ - just opposite the Suntec City shopping mall. The bevvy of Lambo's was impressive to say the least. However, I was so jet-lagged that I didn't have the energy to go back up to the 20-something floor to get my camera! Nice place! Cheers, MARK
Mark, Did u know that the area around the Conrad Hotel is designated free Ferrari parking? I have seen the official circular that was given to the car park attendants for the area. lung
BTW I am going to drive up to Kuala Lumpur this evening for the nite. Anyone want to join? I need to blow out the carbon in my exhaust.
Oh boy, I'm working this weekend. Wish I could join. Only one 355 Spider left?! I'm very very tempted to renew/own this as it's probably the only Spider left other than that Mondial (excluding 360). Someone go grab it!
Just got into KL. Took a good 3 hours...traffic was bad. Somemore, the JPJ did a major check of drivers licences after the Sugai Besi toll. The car runs well. Very smooth now. Most of the carbon has been blown out. The tips of my exhaust pipes are now white and not coated with black carbon soot. Air con died!! The blower still works but not cold. Called HS and was told it could be either the aircon filter is clogged (common problem) or no more gas. The power windows were also very slow. What to do??? Buy old car...expect these sort of little problems.
Hi Mark, Yup...Singapore to KL is about 360km. Nice sweeping roads. I have done this route over 50 times given that I use to work in KL for the last 3 years. I hardly ever flew, why when I could drive. Use to come back to Singapore 2-3 times a month. Top speed for me is around 250kmph, average around 180kmph. Toll to toll I have done it in 1hr 50min, but that was in the Testarossa.
What do you all think of the new Quattroporte and the Model Year 2005 Coupe and Spyder? Many would think that the QP's gearbox is jerky, ride comfort is not up to 7 series or S-class standard etc. Furthermore, I feel that the bigger grille for the model year 2005 Coupe and Spyder looks goodm though it is a tad too large.
I have to agree with u on the QPorte. F1 gearbox is based on the on the 4200. Its not as quiet or smooth as the 7series.... but its pickup is a lot faster. I think the silver colored front grill makes the cars look alot nicer. Just my opinion. Have u considered the Grandsport?
For the Gransport, I think that the so called hi-tech fabric, is it comfortable at all? They said it is very durable and so on, but I am more concerned with the comfort that it gives. Next, if I were to consider a Gransport, I would rather save 20k and go for the QP as it is a 5 seater and it's more practical.
Very different cars to compare. 2 doors vs 4 doors. Hardcore sports car vs Sedan-ish car. Bare essential interior vs well appointed interior. Apples vs oranges.
