I was going to suggest the authorised dealer Hong Seh but others have already done so. Ben is the "boss" of the workshop and Sam the No.2. They are both ok. You can try to risk it with an "outside" workshop but the risk of damage is obviously there and I would not recommend it. The other reason for going to the authorised dealer is the fact that you can say that your car was serviced or maintained by the authorised dealer. As is the case elsewhere as well, this will make it a more attractive sell if and when you decide to sell on. You should note that as the number of Ferraris are not great here, your car would be easily identifiable not only by the authorised dealer, if it is not serviced by them, but also by many of the potential frequent buyers, many of whom are on this thread. In other words, apart from the skill of the outside workshop, if that were the only determinant then I would have less hesitation to go "outside" but the unjustified stigma of a car with hidden problems just because it was serviced elsewhere is there and we have to live with it. Having said all that, the service at the authorised dealer is very good and I enjoy dealing with them very much. Its also a chance to see other Ferraris while your there ! I also worry about outside workshops taking my car out for a joy ride as my friend discovered with his car (which was not even a ferrari). You may never know its damaged as they will try to "repair" without your even knowing. As a Ferrari owner you would be welcomed to join the official club through (once again) the authorised dealer. Why not take a drive down to them with your car and make all your inquiries at once. As for the "other F club", your already a member from your participation on this thread. Lastly, although I may sound like it, I do not work at Hong Seh or Ferrari. Good Luck and welcome to the club.
How many times have you been (if its not too personal to say) ? Frankly, seeing my hands in red driving gloves in a (this year its a) factory 430 would be extremely thrilling but the wife has some views. Ha ha.
Joined the various Pilota courses in 99, 01 and 04... Evolution course is just too expensive IMO... so like you said, the idea of whacking a factory 430 this coming June would be fun i suppose.
Still pinches my heart everytime I see such pics. JJYD, welcome aboard. Time you fill up your details 308QV is a beautiful car, there's many owners here under the classic section & tons of useful information from engine out to minor fixes like fuses & headlight replacements. Perhaps you can share some pictures? As mentioned, I'm the cowboy owner here and go about fixing my Ferrari on my own but I'll still be back with HS once a while. AutoCulture was a good place with nice facility & friendly staffs but they've stopped doing outsiders since end last year. Anyway, you have a vintage model with simple mechanics & electricals, supposedly a bullet-proof trans & engine according to many owners. There's no NASA tech there unlike 355 & above models which requires factory software/hardware to diagnose. If I own any late models, I would advocate HongSeh only. These are high performance cars, even the correct torque on the wheel nuts make a difference. You can get minor fixes anywhere. Town area would be Mr Chong @ Shell just opp AutoBahn near Newton Circus. He has good contacts for F & Pcar specialists & some mechanics moonlight there. Any electrical issues like air-con, alarm, horn, alternators etc. Small fee of $20 to thousands depending on the job, sometimes no charge. I replaced my air-con matrix unit for $1000 (part) wherereas an orig factory would be $15000 (part only). 355 owners, yours is the same as mine & they seem to fail after a decade in the tropics! Few other guys in Sin Ming area. Belt change is easy, just pop a rear wheel off & few hundred bucks while you can order almost anything from the sponsors here. It runs on Bosch K jetronic, similar in period Mercs & Porsches. Normal oil change, radiator flush, brake fluids etc can be done anywhere by competent mechanics. Anyway, as a classic car owner, you'd better learn some DIYs. There are some nice upgrades available & some US folks turbo it & there's one on a 4.0 possibly out-running a stock 360. You can even dump the mechanical injection for an ECU tuned EFI conversion! I think CTK (owns a 308Koenig) is exploring this. Zertec (Mondial QV-remake) is doing something to his engine as well. DNS (Mondial Cab) is keeping it stock. End of the day, if you're worried that your car gets driven by others as a joy-ride (what happens if they crash it?!) or if the workshop looks deceptive, go see Ben. He'll take care of it but call first to make a booking & usually Monday as they do handovers on Fridays. I didn't like the showroom people (so far that I met, must have some nice one??) as they treat us classics owners as lesser beings while the newer car owners have red carpet treatment. Go attend some events & you'll know what I mean.
Well thats the way the cookie crumbles there unfortunately. As classic car owners they dun make much off you, commission at 1% of the sale price, compared to a new car and you can see what I mean. Plus as a classic car owner needs more after-sales care as the chances of the car breaking down is higher. So...from their point of view, a car sold for 200K, com of 2k and all that trouble...well...need i say more? The bunch of them there are real *******s, thats why Melvin is doing exceptionally well these days, mostly ex-ferrari owners who got sick and tired of all the gossiping etc. The management unfortunately cant do much, because the sales room hooligans got their hands on the balls of the bosses.... As for the workshop, Sam is the man you want to go to if you are looking to save some cash as he wont get you to replace a belt if he figures that it can still go. But Ben is anything that looks out of whack, its replace....
Totally agrees with you....... treat 360 and above owners better! Haha no wonder one of my friend reject their offer of the Superamerica and bought a Murcie instead. Good! Very good!
hi to all..... just came back from sepang... pics soon i promise. just my thoughts on ferrari club and stuff..... i was always had a love for the car and was fortunate enough to buy myself one a while ago... not a brand new one but a used , almost a classic one some might say but i am loving every moment of driving it till today... I was also very apprehensive about mixing with the ferrari owners, worried that i will be looked down upon as a used car owner etc..... and i can understand and empathise why some people feel like that but it's not all bad really.... some nice people like lung, phillip and others in the F club and in this chat made new "used car" owners like me feel at home... to me, end of the day, most ferrari owners be it in S'pore or elsewhere buy the car not just because they can afford it but they truly have a love and passion for the car and everything associated with it..... thus this reason gives people from all walks of life, young and not so young, rich and not so wealthy to share their same passion and change their experiences, share tips and enjoy the car more with like-minded individuals.... to me that's the point of joining the club.... so to new owners or to-be owners...forget abt the "politics" and negative things you hear about the club, like lung said... good or bad is relative and subjective, most of the time it's not all bad i promise, HS is a business, so business is business and that's just reality , dun bother about it ....just come, join the club and enjoy the company of like-minded people.... anyway the club has some new people running the show and i hope it will be better and more fun for all owners... cheers.... let's meet for a drive and tea/coffee/crabs? like we were supposed to the last time soon... lung, tuck , phillip, ray, jon, synergx, wilson...
I wont be around in Spore for the next two weeks so i cannot join... BUT will be meeting Spaing77 in San Francisco on Friday for Prime Rib...medium rare.
Are you an owner? How would you know then? Anyway, I do not think so, it is the relationship you build with them.
Well said SY, anyway I did not renew my membership this year so will not be on the mailing list. Will be nice to catch up with Ferrarichatters then. You forgot our very own SFChallenge.
