I can't comment about SGs situation but in MY, yes, 'parallel importers' sells waaay cheaper cars. You can negotiate the price of a said vehicle, and you can even negotiate the 'status' of the said vehicle. Example : A new 997C2S would be MYR 820k. PI's price would be 810k thereabouts. Willingness to settle for 'used vehicle AP' would nett you savings of circa MYR100k. Therefore for the sum of MYR700k-ish you'd drive out in a new car but with a 'used AP' title. Come time to sell though and you'd lose a fair bit since you're on paper at least, wasn't the 'original', i.e 'first' owner....Kapitsch?

Mostly 1 & 5. I think they are on par for #2 & Ferrari has a F612 2+2 which Lambo don't. Not to mention Ferrari is in F1 & has many cups/championships around the world. So there's more involvement in racing than Lambo. #3, well they are more and more buyers these days that aren't into electricfying or cumbersome driving experience. Still there's more Ferraris being made & sold than Lambos. I can't comment on #4. I guess if you're ready with $, anybody will serve you like a king.

BTW, I saw a rare pearl white SE Gallardo with a #1 plate yesterday & took some photos. Very interesting with black roof & glass back. Then saw another Orange one @ B2 of Suntec. Haven't seen much Fcars lately.

I also saw a brand new black CaymanS @ PI Vincar in Ubi yesterday. Didn't ask the price though but my friend bought his new Boxster from there recently & saved quite a fair amount. Stuttgart will charge S$2K+ just to let you enter their books & handle your servicing.

The situation is if you're buying a brand new exotic, it means you're fairly wealthy & trying to save some $ makes you look cheapskate among the social circle. Then when it comes to warranty & re-sale, you're sidelined and when you're driving these, you drive them hard & parts are expensive. Some suspension, ECUs alone will make the initial savings gone bust. So most buyers still go to the agents.

My advice for anyone thinking of buying a Lambo, go buy an Audi instead. Its EXACTLY the same thing.

The cars there are seriously over priced

Quite troublesome to activate my paypal & pay for subscription again so I won't be posting pictures for a while. Vincar is on the 2nd floor of the multi storeys building, is it Automobile centre? Nissan is next to it.

I'm going tomorrow morning to test a car, let me know if you're coming.

Hey Lambos should be good cars rite , they have AUDI as their paymaster and future more Lambo has both worlds......Italian for its styling and Germans engineering..Its a perfect breed man Italians + Germans , talking about motorsports AUDI has won at LE MANS plenty of times and recently won at sebring with a diesel powered engine (TDI) Audi A10..so high tech...But i have to agree that Lambos interior is not SEXY at all compared to Ferrari, as its to squareish and heard that the dashboard switches are from an audi A4...!!yeah price quite high...but what to do its a LAMBO..

They both come from the same audi division of the VW group, but they are built for different purpose and customers, just like Ferrari and Fiat.

The only Audi that can be compare to Lambo is the R8 which is a new model mid engine sports car to be launch in 2007. I understand Audi will be using the existing Lambo V10 powerplant for top of the range R8, however this is only possible if the gallardo get a power boost. until then, there is current no audi that is comparable to lambo.

In order to squeeze 20 races into a season, they will need to have more back to back race and Singapore proximity to sepang will be ideal. both max and bernie has given their blessing for a street circuit in singapore. what do you guys think about this track layout?

I have taken apart FIA approved seats from Sparco and they are poorly made. A "small" manufacturer can and often will do a better job.

Not difficult to do at all.

Oh boy this map's from googleearth? Now, this will make it easier to spot those exotics from the SAF :)

I like the hairpin round the Fullerton, always a blast to drive on that bridge. But isn't the Tuas ring story an on-going thing?

Aiya, think I lost my mind looking for cars. About to sign a deal for an Odyssey Absolute which is a 200Bhp JDM sports MPV & I'll be getting the latest '06 facelift version running on OEM 18", tuned suspension, maybe 4WD & "steering" HID headlights, can't really read the Japanese catalogue. That leaves me some dole to get an early Boxster which I'll renew COE or an early 996C2 or finally still that good'olde Mondial. Really biting my nails now, but I have to be careful since I lost so much $ on cars & realised you really don't own the car if the loan is anything more than 2yrs since the interest is going to set you back tens of thousands. Could have owned a few Patek Perpetuals & made some $ instead :(

Kevin, other than the lone CaymanS, there's the usual Merc CLS, M, S & the usual Japanese makes. A few PIs specialising in rare Jap track weapons. You'll see some interesting classics over @ the Kaki Bukit carmart. Sometimes they have 964, 993, Lotus & vintages. You'll get good soundtrack of the F-16s about to land from 500ft too!

Clive, will talk to you over phone.

The tuas international speedway (TIS) circuit is a going to be FIA class 2 track, not fit for F1. even if they decided to upgrade to a class 1 track, i dont think that plot of land will be big enough.

I doubt any private investor will be keen to sink in US$200m to build a F1 track unless government is willing to fund it. I still prefer a street circuit.

My vote would go for a street circuit too. However, the logistics involved would probably put Singapore at a stand-still for too long a time (at least a week). It would be a nightmare diverting traffic...

If they DO manage to pull it off, then it would be pretty awesome.

It takes Monaco over 4 weeks to put up the barriers and stands and another 2 weeks to take it all down again. Every year they resurface one third of the "track" so that the whole surface is redone every 3 years. However there is not too much disruption to traffic flow except on the race weekend (Thursday, Saturday & Sunday). Even so the road is opened within a couple of hours of the end of the race. It is possible to do this here without too much inconvenience, it just needs to be planned properly.

I will leave the road closures issue to that NDP expert (see pic). They might have to activate the NSmen as marshall...:D

The good thing about the Marina and Esplanade area is they are well connected through underground passage, all the way from Cityhall MRT and there is also the possibility of using singapore river as mode of transport.

The only question is if our government is willing to chop down a few trees, widen some road, build a few chicane and make space to construct a pit lane and VIP lounge.

Anyone from from STB driving ferrari? :)

Clive those folks in Europe don't have a "life" on weekends, most businesses are closed from Saturday noon till Mondays except restaurants & some tourist spots while over here, everybody's busy shopping & working over the weekend & the situation becomes worse over public holidays. You guys know how bad is the traffic @ the 5km radius from Suntec when there's an IT fair? Madness!

I work in the area & every year when they do the NDP @ Padang. It's really a great inconvenience & that's just one day of closure. Imagine 4 weeks? And I'm sure they would be extremely stringent on the road quality & safety. Eg. no debris & yes NS boys would be very useful just like how they prep the Lim Chu Kang road for the emergency aircraft landing strip excercise.

Whatever it is, it can be done & I'm all for it.

The main work is assembling and bolting together the 3-rail armco barriers which doesn't really affect traffic. The grandstands can be made so as not to disturb pedestrian traffic much and road traffic not at all.

The disruption during the preparation phase would be much less than the disturbance we are enduring continuously now with the MRT circle line work.

Really? Sounds like a Chingay carnival then. Alright, then they'll probably just need to close the area for a few days leading up to & a day after the race. That shouldn't be too much while the dismantling of the barriers, seats can take place @ nights/day without much discruption. Wow, I can imagine the crowd & other events leading to the race. That'll be really nice.

if Monaco needs 4 weeks, singapore will do it in 1, partly because we have abundant of "cheap and willing" labour to do the job round the clock.

A new Maserati GT coupe is likely to debut next year — possibly at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show, according to The Car Connection. Highly disguised prototypes have already been spotted in cold weather testing by spy photographers. Unfortunately, the images don’t reveal anything about the design of the new car. According to the report, a longer wheelbase will make the interior roomier — especially in the rear seats. The car is also said to get an improved rear suspension system with adaptive damping and a clutchless gearbox. Engine displacement will increase to five liters — a Ferrari-sourced V8 powerplant with over 470 horsepower. The convertible version of the car will get the same engine, and, for the first time, have a folding hardtop. In October, Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport provided a computer rending of how the a hardtop-convertible GT could look.

Strange, many people always refer this & that bearing resemblance to the SC430. That Lexus is not exactly well loved by enthusiasts yet many carmakers designed their open top/coupe with some reference towards it. Is it because the SC430 set a benchmark for a luxuriously equipped & queer styling sportscar in the motor industry? I often find myself looking @ it when one comes near but I have never thought of owning one. I heard used ones are quite reasonable here.
