    lung7707,
Have to tap your expertise - was thinking of adding more ummp to the exhaust note of my 4200 Maser. Instead of upgrading from stock exhaust to tubis, I read in the Maserati forum that you could replace straight pipes to replace the two mufflers in the rear. No power increase but adds a better growl. BTW - you still have your white GS, heard the car three weeks ago coming down from New Course - awesome.

Thank God I don't have THAT disease..mati!! Still on the Old Navitimer and when my son asked what are the little numbers for...Er...said it's a Slide-Rule thingy and used by pilots. I'm not one so I dunno how to use it. He asked back.." then why did'cha buy it ?" I told him to go disturb mom instead...!

    Jon,
In MY we can have license plates that have space for a dealer's name at the bottom..that's where I'm gonna put Bart's quote. Have to ask his permission though, maybe it's copyrighted!!

    CGT123,
Dunno about the car but I figure if you do buy it you'd better lose the 512M wheels and put back the starfish instead..looks 'too busy' for the 355's perfect lines.

Will your state pass your MOT? Will that affect the ECU readings? I'm not too familiar but I saw Larini system makes for them as well.

Hi, I almost bought that few years ago & took it for a spin but didn't have enough cash then. It had some usual mech wear & tear but I'm sure all have been sorted out by now. I remembered it had the factory Challenge exhaust which is quite a pain & I hope something more subtle has been replaced. Go buy this & keep it, at least that's what Classic Cars says in the latest issue! If I do get the Testa, we can swop rims cos it has 355s & yours are for TestaM or you can buy my 19" Iforge meant for the 355 :)

    Jon,
Your 19" IForge should fit nicely onto the Testa. Longer bolts prolly needed but it should fit....Lower the car a tad...Voila! A mean lookin' 12 cylindered beast with modern but not overwhelming 'running shoes'....

Thinking about that bro. I took them out & replaced the orig 17" this morning & my, they look weird with ugly spaces between the rubbers & body. But it was so easy to drive, lighter (almost power-assisted feel) & a little faster with slimmer rubbers. I'm surprised how all these old beasts can have their rims swapped around, I mean even 360s fit Testa, 348 & 308 (wih spacers). Interesting!

Tks for the reply and I have to agree that the wheels are a mismatch. I am concern how on earth did these wheels end up in the car (GTS) anyway ... hmmm.

Just came back to Singapore after being away for a couple of years. I have own a couple of P-cars before but never a Ferrari. I actually prefer the older, air-cooled Porsches (except for the GT3), but considering our climate here the ferrari seems a better choice.

Anyway, is it correct to assume all Ferraris in Singapore are serviced by HongSeh and therefore should be well kept with history intach?

What can I expect the insurance cost to be?

For the first time in 2yrs+ I'm Ferrariless! She's gone, gone!

I'll be back.....meanwhile, got to be chauffuered in Volvos by SBS drivers :(

So, 123. Most aircooled 911s are very well alive here even though it's been rather hot lately. They have less parts to maintain like water pumps, hoses, fuses, expansion tanks & radiators which any broken link in there can cause a Ferrari to have a fatal stroke! 355s are getting old so please set aside a sum of money for "just in case" situations. Looks like you don't have any recent records with local insurance companies? I think anything older than 2yrs is expired but please feel free to PM me & I'll hook you up with my friend who does car insurance (I don't make a single cent). My guess is to prepare S$5K or so for a comprehensive cover if you're over 30 with more than 5yrs experience. BTW, those M rims are expensive stuff when new. Many 355 & older models are NOT maintained by HS. So, please ask for bills & history.

Hi there. I am a newbie and have only been following the thread since I found it a day or so ago.

I am looking at getting a Testarossa in Singapore and want to get a realistic idea of running costs over and above roadtax, before I make the leap.

I know the adage for these cars is "big boys don't cry" but can anyone give me some idea of what to look out for.

I have had a few performance 'classic' cars in Singapore but am looking at getting something I would really keep for a long time.

Trade-off is to have a Testarossa for the weekend driver or have a 308GTB for a daily driver. Although 2 seats will mean a bit of a sell to my wife.

    Any info gratefully received.

Hi FF, I hope we're not looking @ the same car! Anyway quite a few available now & I might just leap into something else altogether. I'm setting aside S$10K/3yrs for an engine out job since most things need to sort out together while you're there. Some other parts can be expensive or near non-existence when they go but there's some sponsors here to help & you can buy scrap cars from US for good. You're prepared for the road tax? Cool, so we have to spend about S$20000 on depreciation/yr inclusive of roadtax & insurance provided nothing else gos wrong! Not very friendly indeed oh what the hack....

308s are fun. Actually, I might consider it since we can't find a Dino & they're quite easy on the pocket. Can take it anywhere anytime.

I was on Fchat in the afternoon and was looking at Vittorio's 355BF1 wistfully when one of my staff, a she.. popped by and asked what am I doing. Told her I'm on Fchat and that I used to own one of them red cars before...in fact just like the one on my monitor. Being the clinical German that she is, she said " Kool car, a Ferrari. Why did you sell it then..." and walked away....

Morale of story : Once bought, TEN times smitten ! Don't be like me. Your next car MUST be a Ferrari. 12 or 8 or 6(if there's any in SG) doesn't matter...

I had tubi on my 4200. It not only sounds great but it helped on the 1st to 2nd gear upshift... it smoothened out the change.
I am not familiar with straight pipes on the 4200 so its hard for me to comment. One thing u have to becareful about it that with straight pipes it may "boom" the cabin, which becomes very irritating.

My Testa use to be my daily driver for 3yrs 1999-2001. Driving the car on weekends alone is not enough... the belts and hoses will harden... u got to drive it more often.

My advice on the Testa is: check its service history. When was the last time it had its belts changed. The Ferrari agent recommends every 3 yrs. This however, is disputable, but better safe than sorry. Full service can cost you up to $10k. So do you homework.

BTW don't forget the road tax... about $750+ per month I think.

    Gotcha thinking huh?

I may be lookin' at a TR as well. Rosso Corsa on Tan, 6k miles on the clock, xenons but otherwise stock, right down to the wheels....hehe! 'May be' is because by the time I'm back and it's not there..it's outta my conscience! It's Karma! Was thinking about it becuz I will deffo be busy these couple of years away from MY and it's not prudent to spend too much moolah on something I hardly drive anyways. If I do buy the TR, I have spare change from the sale of the TT, even if 'forced selling' status of circa RM400k and I will have a '12' in the carport. A real Ferrari Twelve Cylinder...hehe! The said balance 400k can then be put for an F40/F50 or..er..CGT Langkawi Project.

I saw a couple of 'interesting' watches (used) in HKG recently. Worth buying ke? Daytona white face/Panerai/IWC/Chronoswiss/Bell&Ross....aiyayayeaaay, how come they look so 'new' ? And what to look out for, if buying used?

The B116something I saw at a shop below Mirama TST I think. Was looking at some used Nikkor Tele lenses and then I saw a Bulgari Diagono...bought the tele anyways...job come first!

Thanks SFChallenge and Lung7707 for comments. I am keen on the Testa but the dollars keep popping up in the back of my mind. One big thing let's go and my cash reserves are toast. But my gut keeps telling me it would be one fabulous ride.

Do you know of any decent (i.e. not the black one at Thomson) 308's for sale? If so, what sort of $$ is about right.

Hi, I've only briefly driven a Testa. It's not exactly thrilling like a modern sports car, not that bad driving around town but the C pillar & rear view hampers a little but if you drive fast, what happens @ the back doesn't really matters. The non-power steering is not bad at all, you'll get used to it easily & is light once you're on the move esp if you've got orig. 16". Transmission is quite "normal" & clutch reasonably light. Basically you can drive it like any other car except going into tight carparks (the first half goes through but the 2nd half will be stuck) & I think you'd struggle trying to park parallel. Lung/Tuck, you guys ever managed a parallel parking in it? Anyone who does it will be my hero! Still, it can keep many cars away from traffic sprint but many owners from US will tell you it's no dragster or you'd pop the transmission.

One of my concern on old cars is that the seals may start to leak and any engine rebuilds on these will be like taking a shuttle to outer space. It's quite normal to let them leak a little but they're not as easy & simple to rebuild like 911s.

Haven't heard of any other 308s but that black one is an '84 QV which is quite desirable, it's got a baremetal paint job but I would budget another S$10K for a good engine/trans job to make it reliable for the next few years. I feel a good working example @ S$100K is fair. The last two 328s went for S$160K+/-. Mondials are bargain but think I've gone past that now. Basically their engines/trans are the same & 3.0 road tax is easier in the pocket. Belt change is quite easy, you just pop a rear wheel & parts are cheap & plenty of upgrades. Did you guys see that 308 has been on the top ten list of the most desirable Ferrari as well?

I've got a buyer's guide for Testa, 308, 328, Mondial & 355 if anyone needs, maybe I can post here?

Oh well, there's only 4 328s here & the hype about it's collectibility pushed prices above sanity. My friend sold it because he cannot tahan the lousy aircon vents in our weather & the targa leaks. Get a late 308 with Euro bumpers & updated interior+4valves. Or find one of the two Carbs here but learn to tune it yourself.

If I get one, might mod it with ind throttle bodies & EFI it to draw at least extra 20-40Bhp. Install nice GTO style rims etc.
