Bravo bravo, just collected my TR with the new steering rack fitted. Feels "tighter" now & definitely more respronsive. Doesn't have that floating feel anymore. Thanks Fengtau & Isk. My mech took just a few hours to switch the racks, grease the joints & service my brakes :0

I'll try her out later tonight.

Lung, let's just say I saved enough for a 2weeks Europe trip for two :)
Now, I'm planning a big project for the engine, other than the usual belts, I want to clean, detail all parts in there including zinc plating, new hoses, rubbers whatever. Then the GruppeM intake+glass engine cover. If it doesn't come through in the next 2 weeks, I'll do a basic job @ HS in time for the trackday.

Isk, I've fitted the IF as the 355s with 235 front are rubbing real bad & they were on 25mm spacers all round. I'll be changing them to 225s & install back for the track day while the 19" be for local use. Didn't lower it as it clears most rams & bumps without too much problem. Didn't feel any difference between them & the 18" which really surprises me & they are bolt on without spacers :) A little heavy for parking but nothing more & the suspension is a lot softer than my 348 which really was like a streetracer while this is a gentleman cruiser. Car feels heavy & not as agile for the moment, not sure if I want to tweak the suspension. Everything works well except that the aircon will only blow @ hi speed which freezes me, not a serious problem. I don't think I want to mess with the CIS system yet.

Fengtau, guess you guys spent more time shopping? Good that you guys are back.

I need to add that the part price from HS wasn't high & is actually reasonable. In fact, FerrariUK which stocks all new old Ferrari parts wanted even more! God bless us classic owners....

I'm lucky we have this forum to get connected to the right people & sources. I was able to find 3 S/racks for a steal within a week & for a RHD (LHD easier). If not, the car would be in HS doing the job now & I trust they'll be more than competent.

Shouldn't that be god bless HS (in this case at least, despite your past views about them vis a vis owners of old ferraris) ?

??? What do you mean......I suppose they are already blessed by you guys :)

I never had a problem with them & I have S$20K sitting aside to fix this old bugger. They have running cost to upkeep, store parts & pay those boys. It's just that I'm lazy to drive so far there & take a cab back. I took a cab there @ night once to collect my car & the bloody driver refused fearing he'll be robbed! Besides, my wife wants a holiday so I should try to save a bit for her shopping :)

Only problem is one or two attitude fellow but I wouldn't bother since there are nice guys there to deal with.

Jon, u may not know this...but HS provides a free shuttle service when u send ur car in for servicing. They have a MPV that will send u back to town.

Didn't get that when I last sent in for servicing, they called a cab for me but it's nice of them to do that. Maybe I should leave my bike there next time. Autoculture got their guy to drive me up & down & probably lost some money fixing my car. Maybe that's why they've stopped fixing for us now :)

Dear SF nothing intended - its usual to say (humbly) god bless someone else that's all, - ie a figure of speech - rather than for one to say god bless me. Good to hear of your new buy too.

Dear Lung 7707 -yes its a nice thoughtful service - its an Alphard - changed my view of what a MPV can be and do after riding in it - it can be rented too I gather.

Oh my, Cartrader, your English is a little articulate for me ;)

Nah, mine is an old boy. Just thought that I must own a classic big 12 before joining the ranks which I thought it's been a right move. Would have been a bigger "culture shock" if I stepped into it as a 1st Fcar, so I've been taking history lessons. :)

I should have bought an MPV but made a mistake by visiting Melvin then Alfa... Anyway, a sporty one would have been the Odyssey Absolute with 200ps while a luxury criuser would be either a high spec of new Estima or Elysion. IMHO.

Saw an Aston DB8 earlier, in seal grey with a bald "angmo" driver who took it really fast round bends. Good to see it on the road.

DB8 ? If its a seal grey DB 9 then I have seen it to around Tanjong Pagar Area. Any idea on 1998 996 prices ? Saw some as low as 140 K region. Can it be lower ?

Yep it's the new model, that V8 Vantage. I remember the "smoother" tail. There's a #3 DB9, always parked @ Chinatownpt. Within a few mins of dinner @ Cross St, I saw a black Alfa GTV spider, red Cayman (My first red sighting!), couple of SLs & 6s.

Wow early 996 @ S$140K? That's very cheap! I wouldn't mind one @ this price then COE it! I was looking @ quite a few & almost bought a '99 for S$180K or an '01 Cabriolet for S$240K. Lucky me :) Their parf+Coe should be about S$110K+/- now with the remaining on body but nobody's selling @ scrap & they're all asking for S$20K+ extra which I feel is too much.

Yes, apparently there are no / few export takers for 996s - no doubt due to 997 and made worse by the fact that 996s are not exactly the most popular 911s (I do not think its the worst however).

No doubt that all cars will sell provided the price is low enough but 996 owners are not exactly letting their cars go for a song. So they hang on as the prices fall lower, including prices of new 997s.

Used 997s have now also come onto the market, which makes it even harder. After all, its not how much you pay for the car but how much you re-sell it that counts. You may lose less by buying a used 997 and then re-selling it after a year (which will find many takers) rather than buying an early 996 and re-selling it, even a cheap one, as there may be few takers at the end.

If I was not living here and did not have to buy at these skewered prices, it seems fairly obvious to buy a 997 (or better still a used 997) rather than to buy even an old cheap 996. But since I am living here, a '98/'99 140K 996 is a rather attractive proposition provided one is not planning to sell it soon and intend to re-COE it.

Older Ferraris, but even then only selected models, seem to sell better regardless of age, as you may have already found out.

Well I guess it's the "population" that counts. Ferrari can be tough to sell here, just ask some of the guys, some who have hung on for years. Anyway, there's so many used 996s in the mkt & Porsche has a long list of options to confuse us further which also affects the OMV. S$140K is quite a steal in my opinion, slap on a sports exhaust, suspension & tune that ECU & way to go!

My only fear would be when those late '03+ cars with low parfs are let loose near their tenth birthday. I'm sure buyers of those will be paying tens of thousands lesser which makes renewing COE very worthwhile then nightmare for us. How about renewing a 360spider :)

Aiya Lung, I'm stuck in the hot tiny island here :(

How's the weather there now, it's near mid-year downunder?

Isk, now I know why you say Veglia=vaguely. I was driving around town earlier when I saw to my horror that the odometer has been running non-stop like a time-machine even when I come to a stop! Within the last day or two I had covered more than 600kms when it should be less than a 100. I re-set it & it didn't work then I knock it a little which seems to stop it for a while before spinning again. Oh boy....then the air-con blower started to work fine again. Haiiiiii.....

Jon,sounds like your small tiny plastic gear located inside the meter itself broken.Without that gear, your meter does'nt show accurately. Not too sure if able to 'fabricate' it,but i did it once to my frens Diablo..odometer works fine till today.
Your fan speed resistor and your blower.Change them, cow tim!Hehehe...
