What a screamer... I did not get a lot of seat time when test driving and wanted to hear the good, bad and ugly from other owners? Will this actually be a faster drive then others in the garage?

SL 65 AMG: The Most Powerful Roadster in the World

Much of the credit for the AMG 6.0-litre V12 engine's extraordinary performance must go to the biturbo system, which features larger turbochargers and powerful water-type charge-air cooling. The remarkable maximum torque of 738 lb-ft remains constantly on tap between 2000 and 4000 rpm. The 420 lb-ft torque which the AMG V12 biturbo engine delivers to the crankshaft at just 1000 rpm rises to 612 lb-ft 500 rpm later.

Displacement cu in (cc): 365 (5980)
Power bhp (kW) at RPM: 612(450) / 4800
    Torque lb-ft (Nm) at RPM: 738(1000) / 2000-4000
    Redline at RPM: 5950
    Acceleration 0-60 mph s: 3.6

I put about 500+miles on an SL55 2 years ago and loved the car!! One of the most fun cars I have ever driven. Especially on the highway with the top down! The car from 70-130 is awesome. Enjoy the 65 :)

I had an SL 55, for about a year- 16,000 miles. A true rocket ship. No complaints. Gotta love supercharged cubic inches.

I have an S65 with a Kleemann ECU upgrade....

This car is balls fast for a 4 door sedan!!!!

100% one of the best cars I have ever had.......sorry to say its now for sale in the above Fads.com. Just purchased another car for this year.

You wont be disapointed ! The 65 series are phenominal cars...you get the real German feel with the AMG's you dont get with the other.....more Chrysler Benz'.

Nice color combo by the way!

I have a 600. Great daily driver. Only major grip is the steering is numb and not as direct (Felt it in all the SL's I have driven...just not as precise as a Ferrari or BMW)

Well, did it show up yet? I had mine out a bit yesterday but of coarse its raining today. I am curious to see how you compare it to the gallardo as that was the car I passed on to get it. I needed the ability to drive it anywhere and more importantly park anywhere and have room to put stuff in to take to my beach house. The SL sure is a beast although it does blend in a bit too much. I hope you got a smoking deal if you bought it new! Congrats!

10.85 e.t., that car was SERIOUSLY moving!

I wonder how long the trans will hold up to that much torque. I heard that MB detuned the SL65 to 738 lb/ft because the trans couldn't handle more than that. The AMG cars are badass.

How about reliability? Are the AMG cars in the shop all the time like the regular run MB's? Or are they more like the old school Merc's, were you can run them to 500,000 miles no problem?

    Delivery Day!!!

Won't get too much driving in today as it's just horrible weather and a big storm is on the way. But the engine note is sexy as hell and I keep finding excuses to run to the store! IMO already, it can’t compare to the Gallardo as far as drivability… steering is light as mentioned and it take a split second for the power to kick, but when it does its neck ripping. My wife BUGGED as her neck snapped the seat.

But with the Gallardo you know you are driving an exotic and it’s not meant for pampering the driver. On the other hand the SL is absolute luxury.

    Regards,
    Billy

Out of curiosity, how does it compare to the G with regards to ingress/egress?

I had a tough time getting my fat ass in/out: the flop, pivot and sit maneuver. I found in my SL55 to be as difficult as my spider with the roof closed. The Vanquish is the easiest to get into.

P.S. Going to the Houston auto show and set up a time with the Houstn Lambo dealer.

I am a skinny little chap, but age is taking a small toll. Getting in and out of the SL is nothing like trying to roll out of the 360 and Gallardo. They are low cars and in all seriousness it took awhile to not look like a fool entering and existing.

Our neighborhood is quiet and very middle class. It’s nice, as no one ever feels like they have to “keep up” with one another. We are trying to blend in as we are fairly new to Abington, but everyone is friendly for sure.

You never know… there is probably someone across the street with a McLauren F1 stored in their garage
