Irvin Kershner directed TESB, while Richard Marquand directed ROTJ. It would not be unprecedented for another director to be involved with the franchise. I am skeptical about there being episodes 7-8-9, however. Where else does the story go from the end of ROTJ? If anyone has ever read some of the books that continue on after Episode 6, they are pretty lame with no real villian.

Before the prequels most would have assumed that the theme of the original trilogy would have been good triumphing over evil. The prequels compliment the original trilogy by telling the story of Vader. Therefore, if the six movies are taken as a whole work, the series is more about the fall and redemption of Vader, rather than the heroes (Obi Wan, Solo, Luke). Where does the story goes from Vader's death?

Episode 1 was barely watchable, except for the duel with Jedi and Darth Maul. Episode 2 was much better and darker. Hopefully E3 will be even darker. IMO, what made TESB so good was that the good guys didn't really win.
