One of my all time favorite cars is the Lancia Stratos. It even has a strong Ferrari connection, I like the bold design and it has a sporting pedigree.

I like Lancias generally (such as the Fulvia and 037) but the Stratos really stands out.

Here's a nice link to a site with pictures of a stradale version:

    http://www.rallycars.com/Cars/Lancia/Stratos1.html

Anyone own a Stratos here or has nice pictures, links, experiences etc?

A number of years ago a local gentleman purchased a Stratos and had it shipped here. Within 24 hours he had totalled it, fortunately without killing himself.

I have a few of the Stratos books, and I have a Stratos brochure that I was able to purchase for about $25, but I have never seen a Stratos in person (sad face).

I have owned three Appias, two Fulvias, a Flavia, and a Flaminia in the past.

There is one that lives here in Dallas, but rarely "comes out to play"

I know that motorsports gallery has a nice one for sale. There of course are also the hawk kit replicas available. Really not a bad bang for the buck.

Had my chance at one years ago but couldnt close a $500 price gap. Still kicking myself. I think I'm too big for one now ( physically ) and am looking at Boxers which have ,to my eye ,similar styling elements just stretched out longer.

    I like em !!!

I like the raw uncompromised single purpose nature of the car.

I only know what I have seen in the books.

I see they are way up there in Europe. I have never seen one forsale in the USA or up close and personal.

What does a collector grade original one go for today in the USA ?

I LOVE the Stratos. There is only one in Holland that I know of, a yellow one. I am still a member of the Dutch Lancia club from the time when I was driving Delta Integrales, and on club-meets I spoke to the owner a couple of times.
These cars have become very expensive over the last 6 years, prices are about the same as for nice 246 Dino's.By the end of the 70's (Lancia had no rally use for these cars anymore), the factory had a fair number of road cars (Stratos stradales, built for homologation purposes), that that they could not shift. Nobody wanted them.
From what I've heard and read about these cars, they are extremely twitchy due to the short wheelbase and weight distribution. Try to Google the name Hrabi, he is a Swiss collector who at one time owned at least 8 Stratos' , among those a few works factory cars (Alitalia ex Sandro Munari, Pirelli-safari etc.)

I knew I liked you Jeff. Lawnchairs are great cars, Strati are the best. I still want one, 2v or 4v. Fulvias, B24/B20's too, but the Stratos was dominating. Same reason they won rallies is reason many crash them...they rotate, RIGHT NOW. Good if you know it, bad if you don't. Geneva is supposed to have a re-incarnation this year, who knows if it'll be good.
Zagato Hyena was kewl too, Integrale 2 seater. Toly Arutunoff has had an 037 for ages too, IIRC. Man, what a lineage. Hope FIAT doesn't pi$$ it away.

    I've always loved the Stratos.

I've seen a bunch of replica's, though I've never seen a "real" one. I'd love to own one someday. I think it would make a nice complement to my 308 GT4.

If these can truly be had for 246 Dino prices , They are the best value in exotic cars today.

The Stratos is a wonderful car. How many WRC titles?

Please do not get me started... I always miss out on whats on TV when someone mentions Lancia... here goes:

Not exactly cheap; There is one Group A for 220,000 Euros and a Stratos Stradale for 99,000 Euros. Check out http://www.carclassic.com/html/LANCIA.htm for more details.

I personally love the 037. The road 037s are an awesome sight.

I have some footage of a Stratos (genuine) going hard in a local rally (road). It was a wet day and I heard all these cheers from spectators on another corner. I could not see what was coming, but I sure heard it. I guess I am somewhat fortunate to see a Stratos in person as there are very few in Australia. There was also an F40 in the rally which was nice to see.

I love the Lancia so much I own two Beta Coupes (a Red 75 and a Red 79). My 75 is the real deal. The Lancia before the 80s dash came. Made of cheap recycled washing machine steel from Russia and a little twin cam pocket rocket motor. 4 wheel disc breaks, with a primitive ABS system (it squirts break fluid out onto the road if pressed to hard - ingenious), double valve springs (revs to 7,000 without issue on a daily basis), forged crankshaft, 120bhp NA stock from factory in a car that weighs 900kg. Mmmm... dangerous! :)

The 037 put out from 280 to 315 from 1995cc in the 80s.

Now the good bit - the WRC manufactures wins:

    1992 Lancia (Integrale Evoluzione)
    1991 Lancia (Integrale 16V)
    1990 Lancia (Integrale 16V)
    1989 Lancia (Integrale 8V)
    1988 Lancia (Integrale 8V)
    1987 Lancia (Delta 4WD)

    1983 Lancia (037)

    1976 Lancia (Stratos)
    1975 Lancia (Stratos)
    1974 Lancia (Stratos)

    1972 Lancia (Fulvia HF)

Think rally, you think Subaru right? Subaru have won 3 WRC manufactures championships. Lancia has won 11. How is that for racing pedigree? The only reason other manufacturers started winning was because Lancia stopped rallying. No wonder Ferrari shared the Dino 246 V6 powerplant with Lancia. The pedigree in rallying is the same standard as Ferraris road pedigree.

For the people looking for some footage of Lancias, look for the TopGear review of the Lancia Delta Integrale. The official TopGear quote is "It will pull a Ferraris pants down" and they are referring to a 355.

Nice to see Lancia and the Stratos being appreciated!

I know the Hawk replica and it's very tempting but I would have to sell my current hobby car first which is an Impreza and that's kind of difficult right now. A Fulvia is also still on the cards.

I think the 308 GT/4 and the Stratos are very closely related in design. I wonder how the "coffin" 5-spoke wheels, rear and roof spoiler, rear louvres and Alitalia paint scheme would look on a 308...

They are designed by the same designer - Bertone - and during the same time period (early 1970's).

Hawk Replicas who make that Stratos kit have recently introduced a set of replica coffin-spoke wheels to complete the look of their cars. The original wheels fit Ferrari bolt patterns, so I can't see why these new ones wouldn't (even though the Hawk is marketed as a kit, body panels and other parts are directly interchangable with the originals, so I'm very sure the new wheels would fit. If they do, I certainly wouldn't mind popping them onto my GT4!). I think if found a cheap, ratty GT4, I'd split it up and use the parts from it to build a Hawk Stratos...

I love all of Lancia's cars, especially these bespoke rally offerings (Stratos, 037, Delta S4, Integrale, etc...).

I guess I was wrong. Last time I compared prices was about three years ago. Now Stratos prices (at least asking prices, don't know what they are in fact selling for if at all) are going through the roof. 90K Euros and up.....amazing.

Here is a story for Stratos lovers:
In late 70's, FSO(Polish Fiat factory) purchased 3 competition Lancias for Andrzej Jaroszewicz(mediocre driver who happened to be the Prime Ministers son)
In one of the local rallyies he managed to damage and burn one of them(they saved the Dino engine and transplanted it into a race Polonez),2nd car was sold to a friend of his for an undisclosed sum that was lower then the price of a Fiat 126(who promptly totaled and junked it).
Third car ,never used, when s..t hit the fan(Solidarity movement, change in Government)to avoid any political or financial embarrasment was simply disposed of by burying it 10feet deep ,behind the OBRSO building in Warsaw.
As far as I know the car is still there.....

There's a Stratos owner on Fchat, a guy from Switzerland.
Username....Stratos :) He's mostly to be found in the vintage section chatting with the 246 boys on how to properly tune engines.

    Cheers
    Simon

For the guy who asked how much they go for, their are 2 stradales for sale here for 150,000chf and 136,000chf just to give you an idea of asking price.

Wow. That is an amazing story. I wonder if the car is still there. Say anyone know a Pole that has a good back and a pick and spade? Its a travesty that there is a Stratos 10ft under...

Thank you so much Florent. Much appreciated. I shall journey over to your site and check out the report on the Lancia Stratos. Thanks!
