    Hi There.

    I'm working on collecting some 250 tr's from Tecnomodel. One I've been waiting to get is T-MI24AA black red white #124.

    Autex ebay seller has car #40 out of 40 On Alcantara base;

    1 43 Tecnomodel Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa 1958 Black Red Car 124 40 of 40 | eBay

    Ebay seller / model store Alexreade has #40 of 40, but it appears on a leather base;

    Tecnomodel 1 43 1958 Ferrari 250 TR 124 Black Red Testarossa | eBay

    What gives here? This seems odd as I thought there were 40 cars total in this livery. I noticed the Alex Reade car appears to have covered head lights where the Autex does not?

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks!

    That's Tecnomodel for ya. They would change one little detail on the model, and pump out another 40 models and call it exclusive. Or change the base and call it a variant. Don't be so gullible. Any resin manufacturer needs about 1000 pieces to make money spent on developing the model work, so they will use any marketing trick to produce required number while still keeping the model "exclusive" and "limited".

    Alex, I am a resin manufacturer, and have been since 1989. CMA Models, Inc. We have never played the "limited edition number games" which many others do, but not all of them. We along with some other select resin manufacturers produce true limited editions and are often repulsed by the business model that some of these high volume manufacturers work with. And none of the manufacturers (large or small) "....needs about 1000 pieces to make money spent on developing work....." Tecnomodel, BBR, Minichamps, and some others unfortunately just look to sell as many models as they think they can, and that is standard operating procedure for them, but not for every resin manufacturer.

    Ok so this is legitimate, it's just because it's on a different style base they pump out another 40 despite being the same part number? Also weird the one appears to have covered headlights.

    Conveniently their website only shows each livery having 40. I assumed 40 actually meant 40! Nowhere does it show one with covered headlights.

    I have seen where bbr does this but they at least seem to have a different part number for the special base or call it an anniversary edition.

    Thanks guys, does anybody have this car?

    Well, OK, maybe 1000 pieces was an exaggeration, but being in the business, you know what I'm talking about. Looks like these guys are just too greedy. And who can blame them? If it sells, pump out as much as you can sell, no? Kidding, but...?

    Still odd they would have two 40/40 with the same damn part number, and have the model be slightly different.

    It'd be nice if the companies documented things a little better. Luckily with BBR there are some really cool people that put up a lot of information it seems, but their website has less archiving than tecnomodel!

    These are Italian companies and work the Italian way! (its chaotic in a good way)

    In 1996 BBR published a book Il grandi Piccole, with all the models they made between 1985 and 1995. Around 2000 they announced a sequal for 1995-2000, I am still waiting..

    Same goes for new models.. In the old days (untill 1995) it was allways a surprise what they would make, every trip to the dealer could be a surprise, or just nothing.
    Its a part of the charm, and allways kind of a suprise.. models can take years after announcing them on the website or catalogue.

    The limited edition strategy is kind of the same thing... you make 100 models on a plastic base (limited edition) and exact the same model on a leather base (another limited edition). Then you change the color and you have numerous limited editions of exactly the same car. The Enzo by BBR was made in 30 limited editions, in total around 5000 were made..

    But for as far as classic Ferrari's, BBR is still producing new litle gems every year, and those are the ones I love and collect from them.
