my pops is about ready to buy one of these, the CL55 is a new 05' model and the SL55 is a 03' with 4700 miles, mint condition. both are $100K. soo its a toss up. if he can't get one, he'll get the other. soo, can u guys fill me in on the positives/negatives of each of these cars? if u know anything good or bad about them, please post it. i'd appreciate all the help.

    thanks again,

100k sounds a tad low for a brand new CL55, aren't they going for more like 110k to 120kish?

If he'll enjoy the convertible, get the SL. If he's not going to drive around with the top down, get the CL.

The SL55 is the better buy unless you need those ridiculiously small back seats on the CL55.

The SL55 is only two years into it's model cycle........the CL55 is more or less finished and will be changed in probably 12-18 months.

I sold new MB's for about 8 years until 2003.....we were almost perpetually sold out of SL's......and MB coupes were the exact opposite......saleproof........more or less.......now things are not that way today of course as dealer's have new SL's on the ground........but the coupes are still saleproof for the most part. I NEVER had anyone pay over MSRP for one.....NEVER......

To put it another way......new MSRP on those two cars in your post is very close......so then if a two year old SL55 is the same price as an apparently heavily discounted brand new CL55......that should be the first clue.

    Regardless.....enjoy !!

For what it is worth I just got MB to buy back our cl600. Damn thing could not go 50 miles without a check engine lite. Picked up a cayenne bi-turbo and love it.

The MSRP on the car is $119,620- and thats without any options- add a few and you're well over $130- highly doubt the car's 100k..
