My 2006 Ferrari F430 Spider has arrived, and I am taking delivery on Friday this week (I'm paying a hefty premium for the F430 Spider, as they have limited production making the 360 Spider models more valuable!!!! Remember what happened to the 355 Spiders!!!! They went up in value when the 360 Spiders were trading at $75k-100K over sticker, and the F430 Spider has even less production). This is the only investment car you can drive for a year and break even or perhaps make some money.

As taken from a us ebay motors add, or just sales bull****/hype? did 355 spiders go up in value? if so why? and why would any previous model go up in price when there is a newer version and it has become superseaded?

    thanks for your insights....

Geez, a big jump from your 2003 WRX to the F430! What colour/options did you get?

I am assuming you mean ebay USA, in which case there is no relevance as the supply/demand ratio is way out of whack compared to Australia.

In Australia, your 430 hairdresser spec is going to cost you $80k within months of driving it out the door. Not a great investment strategy!

scott, are you saying the 430 spider is a mondial sort of car (aka haidresser special)?

agree on the 80 k thing, BTW i have been offered Nifty Nevs black 612 in Adelaide (the worst dealer in aust bought it) 800km for the paltry sum of $540k, less LCT of 100k and we get to 440k, less cos its second hand to 405k and i told him i can get a DB9 without discount for 330K. he said that the DB9 is a pommy ford and the ferrari is a ferrari, true but a 612 is just soooo expensive,

my choice....i'll wait for a 550 or 575 in manual form

I call all the convertibles hairdressers cars, though strangely nobody has commented on the F50 being a barchetta........

I am sure the 612 is a brilliant car; but the looks and the depreciation would stop me buying one. I would have thought you could buy a brand new 612 for circa $540k with a bit of arm twisting? They must be a really hard sell as every buyer must be aware of the mega-depreciation of 4 seater V12 Ferraris.
I am slowly coming around to the looks of the 599. Still couldn't bring myself to lose $300k on one over 3 years though.

I don't think you can go wrong on a 550/575 at current prices, particularly the 575 as the 599's come on line and send prices further south. Did they bring any 575 manuals in to Australia?

    Really...

    Tell me... why?

is it just because you like to NOT have to keep presing a clutch... or do you actually like the gear shift (slow, delayed, clunky, rough,)

Clutch pedal I can understand, but I drove a 575 in a wedding procession and it was ridiculous.... Sure, maybe a clutch adjustment would have helped, but a pedal would have been better!

Even in normal use, F1 just doesn't tune in. I want the gear NOW, not in 15 meters, or 3 seconds after I've thought about it.

I can't imagine all 575's would be like you describe. My CSL isn't perfect by any means; but all things considered I prefer the flexibility of the F1.
Auto when stuck in traffic, flappy paddles when in the mood for driving properly.

The best improvement I made to my 575's gear change, was to upgrade the suspension !
A 575 with std suspension will amplify the bad traits in start stop traffic.
They pitch backward and forward uncontrollably on gearchange

Latest software in 575 sport mode is much better than a 360, can't comment on 430 as I haven't driven one yet. Suits the character of the car to a tee IMO.

Yup, the English car mags canned the 575 when it first came out. Apparently they listened to the American buyers DOH! Ferrari brought out a "Fiorano handling pack" option that set things right double quick.

Yeah, thats right. The "Fioarano Pack" A old mate from work, lent me an English car magazine, around a month ago,which...had a really good story on the 575vsDB9. And it did mention an updated suspension package, the "Fioarano Package" :)

I drove AHG's 430 on some good roads for about 20km or so. Never got stuck into it; but on balance the F1 system was a lot better than the CSL's.
I kind of suspect the CSL isn't as slick with 60,000+ km's on board as it was when brand new though.
I wouldn't want to go back to a manual now, perhaps I am just old and lazy these days.

You may be right scotty. After 60,000km,the clutch would have a little wear and not bite as much as it would have when it was new.
    And........you are 37 now old fella ;)

i agree with that, but i'd be happy with the operation of either.

there must have been something wrong with the car phil drove.

really? that's curious...the 360 wasn't bad, and ferrari's assertion was that the 575 was better! oh well. all i can say, then, is that the 430 and CSL are great!

The car I drove in the wedding was Tony Raftis'. It had about 1000km at the time and had just been checked by the dealer for a number of faults, transmission "crapness" was one of them. It was better when I drove it than it had been.

Luckily, I didn't have to take the bridesmaids, I would have messed up their hair, and as for trying to touch up the lippy while cruising.. FORGET IT!

None of the 575's I've driven have been like that, must have been a bad example.
In the M3, the only time the transmission doesn't annoy me is when in race mode.
