i think im going to this year...i like driving it too much to let it sit..
You might make some people upset...(I saw you already replied in it). http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=304000
I would expect that you would put on dedicated snow and ice tires for the winter months since performance tires are really bad in extreme cold, snow and ice......Steve
I think it is great that you drive your car no matter what since that is how I am. I am not saving any car for the next guy and when I buy a car I could care less if it's worth $0 when I am done with it. That's how I know I can really afford it. Have a great time, but do watch out for all the other folks who don't have a clue how to drive in snow.....Steve
No problem at all. We spent a couple weeks in our OTO last winter in Santa Fe in snow and ice and it handled it all quite well even with the "summer" tires. I imagine snow tires would make a bit of difference, but we never got stuck with the performance tires. Drive it, enjoy it, and ignore the nay sayers... Thanks. We really enjoy driving in the car, everywhere and anytime. Going on 21K miles in its first 16 months of ownership. The color is Grigio Silverstone. Photos came out really odd colored as I had the camera set for the wrong lighting...
Eric your 612 is gorgeous, grigio silverstone is my favorite color for this car. I still wonder how you kept it that clean in the snow though Does it make a good rally car?
I keep a bag full of quarters in the console and frequent self serve car washes while on the road. A good coat of Griot's Best of Show wax a couple times a year keeps the car looking good and 3m clear bra on front and lower sills reduces rock chip damage. Ground clearance could be better, but it does a mean power slide in gravel and dust. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That sounds like a good idea to keep 'er clean, but That is one of the best pictures of a 612!!! I think I have a new FChat hero I would love to see more pictures of your 612, not only is it beautiful but it's also well loved Thanks for sharing Eric
I've never actually investigated the snow tire options, but I believe Roy Cats has found some snow tires to fit his Lambos and imagine the same could be sourced for the 612. I've been happy enough with the tires it came with in the few cases where I've had to deal with snow or ice. It gets by, if cautiously.
I am completely shocked that you were able to make any progress at all with your standard tires in snow/ice. I've tried a few times in a 500hp+, rwd car with "summer" tires and was stranded as soon as I was out of my driveway... I actually got a ticket for being parked on the wrong side of the road when I couldn't make it any further, by a less-than-forgiving cop. (what he was doing on my obscure street at that exact time is just my dumb luck, I suppose) Props to you for driving it in those conditions, but I wouldn't recommend making a habit of driving in the snow with your normal tires... Get a set of SottoZeros and really get out there
I have no doubt that the 612 was driven in the snow, but the temperature where he is located is a lot warmer than our Calgary winter temperatures which have a VERY adverse affect on usage of summer tires in extreme cold & very cold pavement. I got stuck coming home in a snow storm with my SVT Focus a few years ago with the German Continental extreme summer performance tires, what a harrowing experience!!
drive it and enjoy it. Dont stay out of it. You guys that drive all year around are my heros,( exception to enzo, gto f54/40). Just got snows for mine. I could not resist walking away from it form Nov to March. Lifes to short esp when you see them dying and getting cancer daily
Clarkson drove a 612 to Verbier in a Top Gear Race against Hamster and Slow. But, then again, it wasn't HIS car... Jon Olsson drives his Lambos to the ski lift... http://vimeo.com/10536960 But - OK - it is 4wd
