Just starting my 360 research and wondering what deals some people recently got from the US and how much they would of saved comparing similar vehicle in Canada.

    Thanks

not a 360, but I recentley imported a bentley for someone and the car was $93,000 u.s vs $140,000 cdn.

Also theres 4 f-chatters that i've imported 360's for although only one is a active poster so i'm sure he'll chime in shortly.

A friend of mine imported an '04 360 Spyder (6 spd) from Utah in 2006.

He paid $175,000 US at the dealer, then add another 25% for duties and extra costs. All he did was drive to the dealer on the weekend, and the rest was history. (Shipping and Duties were taken care of by car brokerage firm).

He had the car on his driveway with plates and papers for about $210k and change. This was opposed to a $205k CAD + TAX asking price in Toronto at the time.

Give or take a few $thousand, about $20,000 was saved.

For me, it wasn't so much about saving money, I just couldn't find the car I wanted in Canada.

I went to FoO and looked at an '02 black spider, F1, daytonas, shields, etc. Great shape, fantastic car but something about it just didn't scream 'buy me'. It was a consignment car @ $175k + taxes. I asked for a red one and at the time FoO said they had a list of red 360s they had to fill first, I was impatient and didn't want to wait.

Plus I ended up buying one from a fellow Fchat member that's a lot like me so I knew he took care of the car.

Sure it wasn't perfect in the PPI, a few small issues but no car will be 100%. Plus I was told by a few people where I got the PPI done that the compression test was the most consistent and they felt the engine was the strongest out of any 360 they've had in. When they were asked if they'd buy the car themselves, to a person they all said yes, even one said if I didn't buy it he would.

Flew down to Atlanta, bought the car that day. Had a fun vacation out of it, most of it spent driving around the US. The car was in Niagara falls three days later. Had to keep it state-side for one more day because the paperwork wasn't processed the day it was sent.

Crossed over with the car myself after getting a NY state trip permit (30 days, which allowed me to drive it around while I waited for compliance). They held me for 3 hours, read me my rights and threatened a federal investigation into my financial history. Essentially they were pissed at my age and wanted to shake me up. Idiots.

I got FoO to do the compliance and issue the recall letter 3 weeks later ($8k - after tax - that probably wasn't necessary but I didn't want to leave the car in the US. Had a wedding to go to where I hated most people and wanted to drive the car haha)

Funny thing is NYS requires the trip permit be placed on the dash. You aren't allowed to tape or affix it to any glass. So for the 4 weeks I had it on, I was getting pulled over 3-4 times a day when I drove the car. One was funny because 3 cop cars surrounded me and came with guns drawn. Then when they checked all the paperwork they tried joking around and asked for a ride in the car.

Sure all of that could have ruined the experience, but I found it funny overall. If I had to do it all over again I would simply because I met some really cool people along the way, driven the car about 8,000 miles since with a cost of around 25c per mile in maintenance and repairs.

It's all about your gut, when the emotion kicks in and says to you 'this is the one' it usually is.

Bottom-line too: I saved about $50k by importing vs. local cars at the time outside of FoO.

So the car was previously registered in GA, but you were able to get a NY trip permit on it? Damn, wish I'd known about that option.

Car was in GA, title in FL, delivery in NY.

Just had to take the title, bill of sale, and proof of insurance to the DMV and they issued the permit

it is "cheap" and most likely after another hour or two won't be for sale any longer;)

Everything SOUNDS good but lot's of things look good on paper it's during the inspections where the "presents" come up!

Oh man. That's a deal. It's probably gone now though :( A car like that up here in BC, you'd probably be looking at $120k range. Maybe a little higher.

I was taking a peak at a local '00 360 coupe for $89k. Seems a bit on the reasonable side

James Simpson helped me import my 2004 360 Spider from Ferrari of Denver. When I started looking, there were specific colour/options that I was looking for, and didn't see much selection in Canada. And when I compared the CDN prices with the US ones, it was stunning how much of a difference there was. I lucked out and bought mine around US/CDN dollar parity.

I recommend doing lots of research, and make sure you do a PPI prior to pulling the trigger. James got me a great deal (wholesale) and arranged the shipping.

You pay 6.1% duty and GST at the border, and then PST when you plate/sticker the car.

it is a great deal! but the one guy I thought would buy it say's it's too much black for him, It's triple black(roof, paint, interior) and it just doesn't suit some people. I have a feeling silver/black will be the car for him.:)

Now I personally would only buy a triple black ferrari of any model but thats me, maybe red if I couldn't find a black car I liked.

    so It's still available?

I was looking into this 360 here, the one i mentioned in my previous post. http://www.westportmotorcars.com/inventory_details.php?212

The price isn't through the roof like most Canadian cars so we'll see

ps. Todd, did you sell your Fiorano back to Weissach? They seem to have one in similar to yours.
