I gave up my smart phone last summer - I opted instead for a Verizon MiFi 3G
5-user "hotspot" as my data plan instead, so I could have internet on my laptop
anywhere. I rarely used the web on my phone... just email.

But giving up my mobile email was a bugger... until I was on a plane in September
and saw a Skymall ad for the Peek Pronto pocket email device (think: cell phone with
email, and no phone functions at all - like the original Blackberry).

I got home and found it on Amazon - $277 ONE TIME FEE for the unit, with LIFETIME
email service on up to 5 accounts!! That's right - ZERO monthly fees - ever. At least
for as long as the unit is still working...

I LOVE this thing - yeah, it's one more gadget to carry, but I just hit the "break even"
month had I stayed on with my old data plan... from here on out, my mobile email is
FREE! And it works GREAT - I use it constantly. It runs on the T-Mobile network, so
there are a few dead zones here and there... but outside of that, it's pretty amazing
and extremely well-built for that price.

    Here's their site: http://www.getpeek.com/ - VERY small company - mostly a bunch
of geeky twenty-somethings (I participated in a 5-week survey/study with them, so got to
get to know them pretty well)

Anyway... anyone else here using one?

Well, it's now been a year of using this little gizmo and couldn't be happier. My
mobile email cost (prorating the original one-time price) just gets lower every month...
Only thing I've noticed is it's pretty useless in Montana - not much T-Mobile
service there. But other than that, if you're looking for a very inexpensive way to
monitor up to 5 email accounts, you can't beat this thing.

Nothing better than "zero monthly fee" :)
