Was planning on using the Wilton Wool Charcoal Ferrari carpet from GAHH. It would make a nice complement to the silver gray leather I have picked out. They tell me that it will be an unknown time before they have more of that carpet, in that color in stock. I told them to see if they had a suitable replacement in a similar color, or color to match the leather. They sent a sample of a BMW silver velour that is a real close match to the leather, but I am not sure about the velour. The velour is also available in a charcoal, rather than the silver gray Comments? Looks when installed, ease of cleaning, ability to look like it doesn't need cleaning or grooming? The velour looks like it may be a pain to keep nice looking, particularly in a GTS car. Thanks, Doug
Doug, I'm currently installing Velour from Lakewell (Belgium)... not commonly known, but a very good supplier of classic car interiors. They came highly recommended by a hand full of friends (top dollar resto guys) at the vintage races. While some of my car buddies think that musty/stale smell in older euro cars is a good thing, I can't stand it. When I was talking to Howdy Ledbetter a few years ago about doing my Ferrari I brought up that "old euro car smell" to him and he said that is the Wool carpets and the jute backing they used. He said if you don't want that smell, go with a modern Velour... So I am. Lakewell has very nicely made/lined/backed/edged carpet at good prices and reasonable shipping to the US. Comes with a detailed installation manual too. www.lakewell.com Rick
As a former motor trimmer in my opinion the way to go is with the Wilton wool carpets. Velour is nowwhere near as hard wearing, tends to wear quicker and is harder to clean and definetly not original for the 308 series. If you look at 308's(Some 30+years old)and older Jaguars the Wilton carpet is usually still in excellent condition and will usually come up well with a clean! Given the GTS is an open top car, this is important. On my own 1984 308 GTS I had several places where the carpet had worn through,i.e. accelerator pedal but was able to match the new Wilton carpet(tan)to the original. All the old carpet was removed, cleaned and new edging/piping sewn on,excellent result! Cheers, Pete
Doug, I had the same exact problem with my TR trying to get black willton from GAHH. They have been out of stock on black for at least a year. I talked to the girl who handles this and she said they lost their supplier of the wool and have been unable to find anyone else. I suppose that means their looking, but she sent be a sample of the Velour and the dark brown sample of Wilton. I told her that if would seem at least fair to cut the price since the velour doesn't come close to the cost of the wool, but nothing happened with that either. Good luck and if you find another source let me know. John
Keyston Brothers trimmers supply many warehouses on the westocast, and Bill Hirsch in New Jersey. Howard Musolf 1981 308gtsi 1982 400i Cabriolet Maserati Spyder 2 many brass era cars If it don't fit, force it, if it breaks it nedded to be replaced anyway.
If GAHH can't get Wilton Wool anymore, i may see if I can source my own auto carpet and have GAHH turn it into a 308 carpet kit, if my local upholsterer can't. My 2003 S-10 truck has a cut pile that is a lot coarser than the BMW sample GAHH sent me,and it wears like iron; being a pickup, it is subjected to mud, dirt, stuff spilled on it, etc., even after 90K miles, it looks almost new after a shampoo and vacuuming. My original 308 carpet has a couple holes worn through near the left foot rest and throttle, after 85K miles Doug
