Just a few questions for anybody who did:

    1) How much did the name help you?
    2) Did you like the school?
    3) Was it worth the $40k+ a year?
    4) Would you transfer if it meant losing a year? (although bear in mind you are already one year ahead)
    5) Any comments?

I'm looking to get into investment banking just FYI. I'm thinking of transferring, I was dead set on Emory for fall but just cannot justify the cost vs the school, hoping to go JHU or Carnegie Mellon for either senior year or to do a graduate program.

Better chance if you get the name of the school correct.

:D Do it. It sucks out here, I tried to get out my first year, but damn credits wont transfer out, so I'm stuck here. :( At least there are hot chicks in skimpy clothes that make it worthwhile ;)

You want to transfer to JHU for your senior year? I didn't think most colleges allowed transfers so late. I don't go to Hopkins, but I have a few friends that go there, and from what I hear it's kind of like going to Penn, insofar as it's a good school in a bad area. Hopkins has a respectable name, but recognition alone won't get you a job, or into a good graduate program if you don't have the grades. I go to a school with a pretty recognizable name, but name recognition wasn't my top priority when deciding where to go. It would probably be easier to provide advice if I knew what kind of school you currently attend.

the funny thing is although my comment sounds glib and of course you won't take it seriously, you have no idea how good the advice is. Ask anyone that's past 35 yrs old and I bet they'll echo my sentiment.

when you're in school you think school matters WAY more than it does, with the exception being grad school, a balance of contacts, fun, and education is the best. A ton of my friends have top notch educations that wish they had gone and had fun.

Tell that to the guys over on wallstreetoasis.com, as far as they're concerned if you don't go Ivy you ain't even getting in the door on wall street.

And to answer your earlier question I go to UGA.

I know a bunch of people who secured good jobs at big investment banks out of non-HYP type schools. Of course, it's no longer working out for a lot of them, especially those who were hired at BS and Lehman. Pedigree matters much less than some would have you believe, in my opinion. In other fields like big-3 consulting it might be different.

Incidentally, I happen to know someone who went to Emory and now works at GS.

P.S. Are you sure now is the time to be thinking about working on Wall Street? ;)

Emory is a good business school, ranked 4th in the country by US news. As for the second part, as far as I am aware they are still getting paid a lot and tbh it's something I enjoy, I really can't see my self doing anything else. Even if I'm working at a prop desk I would be happy.
