I need to verify the diameter of the end where the flywheel would normally attach on any other type of engine.

If anyone has a crank sat on a bench I would really appreciate if they could measure it please in metric ideally.

Going to be about 80 to 90mm looking at pics.

I believe the 348 is the same?

80mm if your talking about the one with the splined center and 9 holes on a 355

Superb, yes that's the one. Great news as its exactly the same then as the 575 crank I am mating the 355 gearbox to, makes life a little bit easier for me.

Thanks for taking the time to help me out.

I have to have an adapter made which will bolt on and convert the end of the 575 crank to accept the spline of the gearbox propeller shaft, it seems to be a set up unique to the 348/355

Sounds neat. Will having almost 1000 less rpm be a problem as far as gear ratios/top speed or not a concern? (Also could change cams/raise rev limit and/or use taller tires).

The plan is to fit it all stock to start with then see what needs tweaking.

Making an adapter to mate the engine to the gearbox is straight forward enough, as was extending the crank end, its sealing the entrance to the gearbox where the 355 crank fits in that I needed to figure out, looks as is if I can make use of the 355 crank seal plate and seal, attached to the adapter, now that the diameters of both cranks are the same, in order to stop the gearbox oil from leaking out.

That's a 550 engine above yes, think the base car is a 308 so I imagine its maybe its going to be a 288 recreation. Mine is down in the special projects section on here, similar layout but based on a 355 chassis though.

The 348/355 box is handy for such, as being transverse, and having the clutch at the far end it does not throw the v12 engine too far forward as to make it impractical in a mid engine layout unlike a typical mid engine box would in such a short wheelbase.
