I need a trailer to bring my 308 to Alfa of Tacoma on the 25th. Waterpump's seized and U-hauls trailers are too high. Any suggestions short of paying a tow company $125+.

    Hi Philip,
Unless your 308 has a Euro chin spoiler or has been lowered you should be able to load it on a standard car trailer. With the use of some additional 2 X 12 planks and 2 X 4 blocks of wood, definately.

Buy a 12 foot 2 X 12 and have the lumber yard cut it in half. Buy one 8 foot
2 x 4 and cut it into 1 foot long blocks. Viola', auxilary ramps to use in addition to the ones on the trailer.

In the world of Ferrari the US spec 308 has the ground clearance of a 4 X 4 in comparison.

Check Ryder. Their equipment may suit your needs and it is usually in better condition.

If I had a low rider I would swing down and pick you up.
    Sorry,
    DJ

Sign up for AAA! If you get the plus option I think they will tow you up to 100 miles. If I remember it is only about $85 for a year and you get three or four calls per year. I look at it as pretty cheap peace of mind and actually comes in handy once in a while.

I have AAA but the car is now in my garage and I'm not sure if they would approve the car towed from there. It's where they dropped it off when the pump went out while on the 405 a while back. I would have had it towed directly to Alfa's but Carlo was in Italy and it was late on Sunday night, returning from McChord AFB from weekend duty.

I'll go look at the Ryder trailers this weekend Spasso.

AAA will approve a tow from your home to the shop, because your car is not driveable.

They've done it for me before, no questions asked.

Just make sure to tell them you need a "flat bed" tow truck, because of your car's low ground clearance.

PS: Get the AAA "Plus" membership, it's well worth the extra cost. It will cover tows up to 100 miles.

Roll the car into the middle of the street if they gave you any grief. They can't refuse a tow if your car is blocking traffic.:p

In the past I've had them tow the same car several times. They used to be kind of sticky about this one but I think they realized as long as you need the tow why does it matter? Of course your number of calls is limited per year then they start charging you anyway.

As an update, the car is on the way to Alfa's right now. Allstate did pick it up again and brought it to Carlo. The automatic connection to a local tow company brought some interesting news. ZZ Towing out of SeaTac wanted $250 cash on top of the fee assessed to Allstate since it was a Ferrari!! They said if I wanted it to be picked up they needed the extra fee since the car needed extra handling. Just a note of caution with this company. Allstate was appalled and they would look into this company's tactics of exthorting money when they think someone is wealthy.

Carlo did recommended a guy who has a truck and will flatbed anywhere. I spoke to him and he was very knowledgeable and when I told him of the previous companys "fee" he laughed and asked what he should have charged the 8 million dollar Dusenburg's owner he recently moved. His name is Charlie Snedgrass at 1-(206)778-0902.

Glad to hear it all worked out in the end. Some people see the name Ferrari and don't know what to think or how to act.

I brought my car into work Tuesday for a charity car show. The weather really sucked but it's only a few miles and they had undercover parking for the whole day. I got to my spot and started drying the car off to make it halfway presentable. People were walking up and looking , asking questions etc. all great stuff, I love showing the car off even if it still needs work!

One guy walks up and the first question out of his mouth is "Is that the real deal?" Now keep in mind I'm running on about two hours sleep (it's a long, sad, story) and I almost popped off a smart comment. I didn't though and told him "yes, it's real".

So then he kind of looks at me funny and says "Wow, what's it worth about 200K?" I just started laughing and told him I wished it were worth that much and that I'd be happy to make him a GREAT deal and sell it to him for half that!!

Just one of those strange reactions to the "Mystical Ferrari"
