I posted the following message in the 348/355 section. This section might be a better forum.

I'm in the process of buying a '98 355 F1 and I just found out from the mechanic a leak was discovered coming from the F1 actuator. Does anybody know if this part can be fixed by taking it apart, or at the very least sent somewhere to be repaired? The part is ~$7,000 from Ferrari and I'm hoping there is either an equivalent part or another source that sells it for less. Can anybody out there shed some light on this?

There was thread about a year ago referring to a remanufactured part that in the end I think turned out not to exist - apologies if I remember incorrectly - at a guess its in the 355 section - it had a bunch of other ideas too - try a search in that area

Ferrari has a "lock" on them by only selling a complete unit. Nobody with a leaky one wants to take it apart until they are sure they can get parts.
Easy fix, call "Catch-22 Auto Parts". ;-)

My mechanic at Motion Product West, CA successfully put the 360 retrofitted into F355. Talk to Josh Gronitz there. It is not a direct bolt on, but it is a cheap fix, and it is Ferrari newer parts from the 360.

The F1 system fluid was replaced, and a kinked hose was replaced and it seems to have taken care of the problem. (No more leaking) I will know more by early next week to make sure this fix took care of it. I think more than anything else is the car needs to be driven more. A '98 car with 7600 miles has been a garage queen. I'll make sure I'll drive alot more than 800 miles per year.

    Thanks for all your ideas.
