Anybody here into Bridge?

As some of you may recall, my father-in-law passed away recently. To help with the transition, I got my mother-in-law a computer and installed several games, one of which was Bridge.

Then, I made the fatal mistake. I put the game on my computer. Geeze Louise! I'm never again going to joke about ladies who play Bridge. This is one tough game! By comparison, poker and blackjack are boring.

I have gotten to the point where I have decided that I better figure out the rules and such. Can any of you Bridge Heads recommend a book or web site?

Seriously, this stuff is very addicting. My main problem is that my computer partners is a complete frickin idiot. If I didn't know any better, I would suspect that he is secretly in cahoots with my computer opponents!

Bridge scares me because it does look addicting and obscenely complex - hey, it's the only card game explained in the newspaper!

Bill Gates plays bridge too I think. Maybe we should call and invite him here?

Screw that. I'd rather just do a hostile takeover. Buffet, you're toast!

Start with "Bridge for Dummies" (seriously), then go to Barnes & Noble and buy any of the bridge books, then http://www.acbl.org/, finally end up learning Precision Bidding...the Ferrari of bridge bidding.

 

Thanks a lot for the tips. There has got to be something better than the current program that I'm using. My computer partner is always on crack!

Dale....I make fun of my wife for playing Mah Jong with all of the old Jewish ladies on Wed nights. Bridge I am not about to start with either.

Thanks for the site. I need all the help I can get. My 81-year old mother is a pro, and I'm getting tired of her kicking my butt!

 

Just learned to play. Used to play variations on spades, but this is so much more complex and fun. But, that said, you can't play quick little games.

Dale - if you find a way to play online, I'll team up with ya buddy. Seems wierd to be playing ona computer but sure.
