boy, y'know, the more time i spend digging about the new Ford GT online, the more i think the inflated prices are going to do the rock and wet paper bag routine. there seems to be nobody out there with any data on this. nobody seems to much care. at this rate i think ford's gonna be surprised at how many $150K car buyers don't show up to spend their money.

    ANYWHO......

the rumor mill says that the first production car comes off the Wixom MI line tomorrow - april 29th. that means within 30 hours or so. but there's no data. no fanfare. no info.

anybody have info? the crew over at GT40s.com seems to have little to no definitive data.

    doody.

Still trying to talk em down, eh, Dudeman?

To me, the drums are saying the opposite. Somebody is gonna be making some real money on the first ones.

And as far as the $150k for a Ford argument, read the article in this month's SCM about the guy who broke the $10,000 barrier for Ferraris. It has to start somewhere.

NO argument that early cars are going to go for good money. zero argument. it's already happening and it will continue.

but my ebay analysis suggests MAYBE ten (10) cars in teh entire us have sold there. figure another 50-75 maybe at inflated pre-order prices. it's tiny numbers.

there's a TON of interest and a TON of pent-up demand, but it's not sustainable. once the pent up demand is met (and it ain't that much)...

i'm not talking anybody down (yet). i just want to know if the cars REALLY are rolling off the line starting tomorrow.

there is a dark blue with silver stripes GT at Ultimate Motors in Longwood,Fl. That is the local RR,Bentley and Lambo dealer for the Orlando area. That Gt is outside in the fenced off corrall, sitting next to a RR Phantom - roof is lower than side window sill on the big car. The GT has been there for nearly a month.

this is a repro. they still fetch a good amount of money and are built very well. look for 'gt40' on the side instead of 'gt', that should give you a hint as to which one it is if the subtle detail changes don't catch your eye.

    i'll buy one for $75,000 in 2 years :)

didn't they try selling the Z8 for $150,000

I think the GT should be priced competitively with the viper

I've been interested on GT40, but the dealer I contacted has no information when they'll get the first batch. They offered I put down $10K deposit, but I'll be buying a car from different dealer (I bought Excursion from them in 2000, and my salesman then is a manager now who remembered me)

Depending on where you hear from on this car, even $150K sounds low or way too much. I really don't know what to make out of.

Doody, I thought you liked this car? NO? Not interested getting one?

Dr. Tax, what do you mean by "as far as the $150k for a Ford argument, read the article in this month's SCM about the guy who broke the $10,000 barrier for Ferraris. It has to start somewhere"? I am not good w/ initial abbreviation as I don't even know FCA, FNA, FML, FCC...... Sorry for possible dumb questions.

It's in the article by Sheehan, I think. You gotta remember in the mid-60s that making $10,000 a year was very good salary. So when the first guy sold an old Ferrari for more than 10 grand, it was like breaking the sound barrier.

dude - if you can remember things from the mid-60s then you were DEFINITELY hanging out with the wrong crowd ;)

sorry - i couldn't parse this. i can't justify buying one above MSRP. whether i can justify it at MSRP is not entirely clear.

i think the car is definitely worth more than a viper. given how the dollar is doing against the foreign imports, i think it might be worth $150K. who knows.

but i'm not trying to talk price. i just want to know if the ****ers are rolling off the line or not! :)

I thought the first production GT was going to a big FERRARI fan, with the initials J. S. He is one "car guy" who drives the car; even if it is a one off SPECIALE!

Damn Gen Xers. Why don't you start doing something useful like paying Social Security taxes instead of playing video games and hanging out on FChat.

    I'm counting on you.....

With the Noahs' Ark debate still fresh in my mind I guess you can call me omnipresent? :D

banana boat - Thing is, that Ford GT will share the same service as the guy in the next lane with the F150. I'm not saying it's because a Ford, but the GT doesn't have that mystique of owning a real "exotic." It's more of the car that warms up to you and it like "Hey buddy, lets go for a spin and rape a few Ferrari's and Lambo's."

Its social security - under the Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA), a certain percentage of your income up to a limit must be paid into Social Security.

Doody was saying he's maxing out his FICA - to make Dr Tax's later years (read happening now) - easier. :)

Technically - I think everyone max's out fica at a set percentage and then a limit = but hey I'm not a tax guy..

Isn't the FICA kind of pointless if you already have an established wealth?

That would be somewhat true - for example, Warren Buffet certainly does not need social security payments.

Just like Tiger Woods doesn't NEED anymore endorsements at this point - its all gravy.

Hey you know what that doesn't bother me. I could care less about mystique! I remember when I was driving a GT-40 as my daily driver and I had an overheating problem. I took it to the Ford dealer in Walnut Creek Ca for service, Met a really great dragster mech who subsequently also worked on a 427 Cobra I had that had a retrofitted 427 SOHC engine. I blew Ferraris away with both of those Fords .Just a Ford mech at a Ford dealer so what!!
