So bought my Ferrari 488 few weeks ago. Was told that the battery had been replaced recently. Car passed smog but EVAP still shows incomplete. In California you can pass smog with EVAP not ready as long as the other 7 or 8 parameters are complete. However, I put almost 400 miles on the car through various driving conditions, AC on and off, defoggers on and off, etc. and still shows incomplete. Car runs fine and my cheap OBD scanner tool doesn’t show any pending codes. I’m assuming given it’s a Ferrari, and like everything else on these cars, the drive cycle is probably convoluted. If anybody knows or has any inside on how to drive it to get EVAP to complete I’d appreciate it. TIA

Cold Start. Don’t leave your keys in prior to the cold start. (For example, after leaving the car
    overnight)
Idle for 3 minutes with electrical equipment on (A/C, headlights, and rear defroster turned on)
Turn off A/C and rear defroster.
Put the vehicle in gear, drive up to 35mph, and come to a complete stop. This should just be natural
city driving for a few minutes.
Get on a freeway, accelerate smoothly to 55mph and maintain speeds for 3 minutes
Decelerate down to 20mph without braking or depressing clutch (for manual transmissions). Turn on
    hazard lights as needed.
accelerate smoothly to 55mph and maintain speeds for 5 minutes
Decelerate down to 20mph without braking or depressing clutch (for manual transmissions)
That’s it. You should be set to get to Antoich’s smog check now!

Updated with small points I missed over the weekend:
    1. Make sure your car has at least 1/2 tank if fuel. Any lower and some systems may not set. It does
not need to be completely full... 1/2 tank to 3/4 tank is ideal
    2. Start with a completely cold engine ( as in first start up of the day ) or at least several hours cooled
    ( 3h + )
    3. Start the car and let idle without touching the gas pedal for 4 minutes
    4. Drive car in higher gear at a constant speed keeping the RPM's under 2500. Keeping the car at a
constant speed is very important. I usually drive to the highway ( keeping the RPMs under 2500 ) and
put it in the top gear and cruise... not changing gears or speed for approx. 4 miles
    5. Immediately after step #4 , find a long stretch of roadway , with no traffic, and perform a total of 6
    ( in a row ) , 2,000 to 6,000 RPM runs , keeping the transmission in 1st gear ( Do NOT upshift ) when
you get to 6,000 RPM, allow the engine to run itself back down to 2,000 RPM without using your
brakes.... you are heating up the Cats in this step. Be sure to use your hazards during this step, so
those around you do not think you are trying to race them...LOL
    6. Drive normally to somewhere close you can let the car idle for 5 minutes
    7. Turn the car off and let it sit for a minimum of 15 minutes.
    8. Start the car and drive normally for 20 minutes, again without sudden acceleration or frequent
gear changes, for a total of 20 minutes. I usually drive on city streets for 10 minutes and then 10
    minutes on the highway.

Simple just as I predicted for a Ferrari ‍♂️. OK, I guess then EVAP will just be incomplete for the duration of my ownership ha ha. Thank you for the post.

I am not understanding why you did not go and get your test? You know you don't need evap to be complete. So go pass your test?

BTW this Changed October 1 2025 - all gas cars 1996 and newer will need to have EVAP complete.

Are any other monitors showing INC or Incomplete or"not ready" ?
And you are not trying to make the N/A ready are you? Those mean you don't have those systems in your car.

Sorry I thought I mentioned it in my original post. The car already passed smog because you are correct, California doesn’t require EVAP to be ready. Although it sounds like that’s changing. So I’m not worried about it passing a smog test anymore. I’m just concerned that it still shows not ready. Hoping there wasn’t some hidden issue that the dealer was trying to hide from me. Although my cheap little scanner usually shows pending codes on my other cars, so I would imagine if there was something related to the emission/evaporative system, It would show up as a pending code. I guess it was just my neuroticism, hoping I could get the EVAP cleared to settle my anxiety ha.

Ah just a confirmation thing I see. You won't get any pending codes until the monitor runs for the first time. And honestly there is no telling when that will happen. People are going to be so pissed at thier cars once they need to get evap ready to pass.
