First, 3.2 with Service Bulletin 10-16 (see attached) i.e. new, deeper sump with longer suction (pickup) tube.

While removing the oil pan the upper baffle got hung up on the pick up tube. So while the whole thing was hanging I removed the 4 nuts that held the baffle in place.

Putting it back together in reverse is going to be a trick trying to time the sealant drying and hoping that I don't damage the gasket.

If installing the baffle back onto the pan first, the pickup doesn't align with the opening in the baffle.

Anyone have a better way? Robz328 had to remove one of the pan studs which I'd rather not do.

FYI, the way the baffle is made, the pan doesn't drop straight down. Just down about an inch or so and then it swings out of the way (aft). But the pickup tube prevents the swing...

I enlarged and cropped Rob's photo, notice the baffle flanges extend beyond the outer edge of the pan.

    I just did one today.

No big deal, lower and rotate aft. Pull it out. It requires a very slight flex of the pick up tube.

Reverse to reinstall. Done it a hundred times. Been doing it the same way since 1986.

My baffle plate wasn't bent all to **** like yours though.

I don't think my plate is bent, and there was no flexing at all trying to pull it out to begin with. I had to reach inside to remove the nuts and then the pan lowered away nicely.

And thanks, I'll try it like you say.

Oh, and the surface rust is from only after a week of sitting clean and dry, in the garage.

Okay, now I see what you mean by the "bent" baffle plate; that's where the dipstick extension goes and answers the question about the previous damage.

And yes, after putting the baffle plate back on first the oil pan went right in (hook, rotate and push up).

When you take out the dipstick extension is goes much easier, but taking of the extension... that's another thing :) you will need to mod an open end wrench (shorten it)

Yes, and that's what many people don't know and could end up damaging the extension tube.

The problem I had here (post #1) was the oil suction tube wouldn't allow the pan to drop/swing out unless I removed the upper baffle plate first.
