I want to install a race harness i my car, for track days. I dont know how to install those eye bolts for a 4 point harness, and cant find any info on that.

this guy installed a 3 point harness, at the stock mounting location...Anybody here tried that?

What underneath the upper seat belt mounting cover?

Man does that look unhealthy! Stick to OEM or do it right with a proper 5 or 6 pt harness. 6pt is easier to install than 5pts.

    Lars,

You need to buy a Harness Bar, it fits to the standard belt mounting points and runs across the back of the car.

The 4 point harness is then fitted to the bar without drilling any holes, Angelis & Walclare have them in their 348`s.

    QV London sell them!

    Regards,
    Phil.

Be very careful 4pt belts allow you to submarine more than 3. This can kill you. There are only a couple makers like Scroth who make a 4py ASM unit to mitigate submarining. Changing safety gear away from OEM can be very dangerous. You need to think carefully about it and do so homework so that you select the best compromises.

The 3 point belts are made be SCHROTH. They are TUV approved and clip like a standard belt. I used them in one of my Porsches and work well for the street(easy entry). You do NOT have to add any bars to mount them, and they are easy to install. VERY detailed instructions on how. As mr large billy bob stated, the are designed with ASM (anti-submarine) technology which prevents you from going under the lap belt in an accident. Worth the money if you did not want to go with a 5 point.

Nope. Don't have them in mine.

Did consider it, but decided against it.

I have a pair of Schroth 3 point asm autocontrol 2 harness belts to fit in my 348 Spider. These have a inertia reel that can locked by a electric switch for track days or unlocked for normal driving, and they can also be fitted to the normal mounting point but its not a very neat looking setup much better with the harness bar fitted!!

    Phil.

I hear you all and Schroth makes the best units. I even use Schroth but the 6pt twin shoulder belt HANS units. Remember that your car is designed to take a hit at the statistically most likely collision not the 170mph that the car is capable of. So that means maybe 60mph hit the brakes impact at 40mph for a 20g pulse. But at a HPDE you are going 120-130mph down straights and 70-90 in turns and you are risking you life on minimal safety gear. Yes that ASM system reduces submarining but a proper 5-6pt will work better. The 3pt attached to the shoulder anchor point is at an angle to a front rear impact and again is a compromise. Safety is a system and when you change 1 itme in a system you need to be an engineer and think about what other things have been changed. It is very complex. That is why if you race in a sactioned group like SCCA they will mandate xyz equipment because they have thought about these compromises. Anyway...Be safe!

I totally agree with FBB. The Schroth ASM is better than a normal 3 pt, but it isn't a substitution of a full hestraint system. The best would be a full harness system attached to a cross bar. At that point (and speeds) a 4 point cage would be a good idea. My offroad car uses 5pts, plus full window nets. Ya just never know.

    Darrell.
