Not sure if this is right section, but I'm ordering FIA-GTR and wondered if anyone has tried it yet. It looks pretty good, with nighttime driving and weather. The physics of the game are based on the same foundation that the last EA Sports F1 game (F1C 99-02) was based on. Ferrari is heavily featured with three cars an numerous teams.

It has been out in other countries for a few months, anybody done some online races yet? With the F1 season over for 5 months, it would be a long winter without games like these.

I got about two weeks back - I havent had much seat time on it though. It seems very detailed and simulator oriented and not an arcade game like Need for Speed.

It has three stages Arcade, Semi-Pro and Pro levels. I tried the Pro level and was spinning the car (no traction control). I moved back to Arcade.

    Pluses:
    - The graphics are great, the sounds are awesome.
    - Not too many interesting cars - but you can d/l the rest from other sites
    - 360 GT is really cool and knife-edged to drive. The 550 is pretty tough to drive

    Minuses:
    - Circuits are boring except for Spa, Monza, Barcelona - however a lot of them can be d/l elsewhere
    - Pretty tough to race on

Overall I think it is a pretty nice game but somehow for me it is more of the same.... - I still like Grand Prix Legends better. I am sure I will forget about GTR in three months.

I downloaded a track called "Solitude" for GPL. A real historic track not unlike Nurburgring. My personal favorite.

It has been around for over a year by now. Do a search on FChat, we have discussed it several times.

It is very good, probably the most realistic GT sim out there. That realism comes at a price: You need a really powerful PC to run it smoothly and you have to practice A LOT to get anywhere. Even in Arcade mode it is no walk in the park.

I wasn't so hot on the tracks it had, but the selection of cars is great. I never came to grips with the 575 GT, but the 360 GT was ok.

My favourite part is the amazing sound system.

Totally agree - it takes like a minute to load the circuit on my PC after clicking the begin race button.

The FIA add on was OK but the new version is much better.

GTR is a great game. You need good ram as well, I use 1 GB Corsair XL3200 Pro and that made a big difference. High end video cards are a must.

    PRACTICE
    PRACTICE
    PRACTICE.

I have both English and German demos and they are quite different.

    Try driving at night!!!

I've got GTL and its a lot of fun. Its great combo with Logitech FF wheel and no driver aids.

I'm not to far into it, I'm spending a bit of time in a Cortina (lol) but it's a lot of fun slightly drifting out of corners etc. and getting the power down just right. I'm looking foward to the more powerful cars, but you can take most of the cars for a 'test drive' :)

It also runs quite well on my lower spec graphics card.

There is a demo out there, give that a go and see if it runs ok and try out 3 cars that comes with it.

I've love it if it had more than one Ferrari (275 GTB/C) in it... and I think you get that almost at the end (without cheating ;)

I'd like to fang a 328 around the tracks :)

I've had GTR for some time now, There are now add-on cars, tracks and other enhancements that really make the game quite entertaining. I even use the "M3 Mod" to show new BMWCCA Club Racing drivers the right and wrong examples of behavior in our schools! Makes for some very entertaining A/V demonstrations!

I've also used Watkins Glen and Road America to coach our SCCA National and historic drivers before they get to the track at the shop and at home. It'll only get better as more people develop add-ons for it. The 360GT is fun, but the Murcie sound is INTENSE!

When I was in Vegas last month, I went to the "exotic" car dealership in Ceasar's Forum Shops and, after paying up to try their "simulator," discovered it was GTR in a fancy cockpit with a good display and a good sound system. They let me play on after my time ran out because there were about three dozen people who had stopped to watch! It's THAT good!

That said, I bought GT Legends a couple months ago and it is on a whole new level (up) from GTR in terms of realism. I do get a LOT of track time, mostly in older cars (Alfa GTV, Fiat-Abarths, FIA-GTC Ford Falcons and Holman's GT-40) and in comparison to GTR, the new physics engine (GMotor2 in GTL, an upgrade from the one in GTR) is just sublime.

The high-detail graphics (I can't get over the dash and even gauge detail, even the oil-scum on the windshield!?!?!) required a 256MB DDR video card upgrade but it is absolutly incredible. I think GTL is a more modern generation of game development than GTR. From a "sim" standpoint, which is all I'm really interested in, GTR and now GTL are all I want or need.

On the treadmill, GT4 and Forza are fine. When the hype around the XBox 360 (name cooincidence?) settles down, I'll buy a Premium and PGR3 and play with that, too. But as much as I like the eye candy, the short boot time and the variety of cars present in the consoles, you can never get away from the feeling that the car is pivoting on one central axis and that neither the front or rear of the car is developing slip angles independently of one another.

GPL was perhaps the first game to "feel" that way, but GTR was much better and has more relevence with the modern cars. GTL just takes it to the ultimate level... this week, anyway. :)

GTR is the top of the line, but boy is it hard. I kept looping my Ferrari into the Porsche in the pits. Just getting out onto the track took me forever. So I have to admit after a few hours of frustration I put it back in the box. Just as GPL is a bit too hard for me as well.

I found GP3 and GP4 not too easy at first as well, but being F1 I had at least motivation enough to learn them (which I eventually did after a few months). But I can't get the same joy and motivation out of driving a 360 around Brno.

GTR2 is on the horizon now.

To me rFactor is the future of the racing sim. It's still relatively new but good mods have started to emerge. http://www.rfactor.net/

I found rFcator to be a big 'meh' but I really love GTR. I'm too cheap to buy GTL but I play GTR nearly every day! It's replaced NR2003 as my daily sim. Yes, I used to play that nearly every day too...

I have plenty of cars to keep me entertained. TVR Cerbera, Aston DBR9, Skyline GT-R, M3GTR, Maser Trofeo, 997TT, and a LM1970 mod. It's not done very well in terms of graphical quality (the GT40 is the wrong version! It's supposed to be MkIV not MkII) and the interiors are all the same and rather bad. Buuuut it's got the Ferrari 512S (three of em) the 917LH and 917K, an Alfa, the GT40, and a few friends. I did a 40 minute race (that's enough endurance for me) at Road Atlanta in the 917LH and was really happy the hole time. Did it all on one set of tires too! :D

For tracks I've got Road Atlanta, several variations of Watkins Glen (pretty good, actually) Road America, Le Mans (24h!) and the Ring (24h!). Oh, and the whole Trofeo series' track list, which I think is Mugello, Zolder, etc...
