A grand a tooth. If you want to bling them out with diamonds or platnium, the cost goes up exponentially.

    But you'll be supa-fly!

"Eric, Im leaving right now for vacation.Ill be back on the 28th , give me a call.I do crowns, but a grinder would need a full workup, and most likely a nightguard. Scott."

A friend had this done a year ago. He's a grinder too. He had a full-mouth-restoration done. Has a hollywood smile now, but I think it cost him around $35,000.

My qualified opinion is DO NOT do it unless your teeth are really bad. I have some laminates (same as caps) on a few of my teeth and they are a real PITA! Every few years one will break off for some reason, and since they have to grind down your tooth to put them on you look like a redneck (ie. looks like you have a small/no tooth) for a week or two until you can have it fixed. In case you are wondering it would normally cost $600 to get one replaced if i was not friends with the dentist. Granted i get compliments on my smile sometimes, it probably wasnt worth the hassle whenever one broke off.

So what's the term for a chronic infection left in the jaw when an abcessed molar is removed? (Other than lymph lighter)

Caps and laminates are not the same thing and can not be compared directly. They serve a different purpose (laminates are usually in the front of the mouth and are an esthetic covering, caps="crowns" are laboratory fabricated and encompass the entire tooth, when done correctly last up to 25 years).

My advice to a grinder is to find someone in your area who has a lot of experience treating your "condition". Trust me, have a thorough workup done and completely understand the plan for your mouth before starting any work.

I wish I knew someone around the Georgetown area as a referral--sorry I can't help you there.

So my best bet is to do what now? I feel, which im sure is more pyschological anthan anything, that my teeth are really small.

    Antony,
Your best bet now is to seek out a good dentist who does a thorough workup on your mouth and bite. Perhaps get a second opinion. And don't make your final decision based on low cost.

Regarding GaterSmiles' claim of "when done correctly last up to 25 years", I would add an addendum: " if the patient keeps his teeth clean with EFFECTIVE brushing and flossing to prevent recurrent decay." In my experience, the number one reason a crown fails is not because it breaks, but because the patient fails to keep his teeth clean enough to prevent recurring decay on the tooth the crown sits on.

the one i had trouble with came off because something changed with my bite- the bottom tooth was shearing it off. With some filing and grinding the problem hasnt come back, but i still am always careful with it (ie. no opening bottles or chewing on ice).

Many doctors say it is due to mental stress. Maybe that is how it started. It could have evolved into a habbit during periods of stress, which might explain why it is a lingering problem, even if stress is no longer an issue.
