Hi, has anyone added back up camera to their 348/355? I am thinking of installing one myself but I am not sure where / how to feed the wires from the engine bay into the cabin? Can anyone help?

    Regards,
    Dennis

    Interesting.
there's got to be a harness you could tap into and/or drill a new hole and put a grommet on it.

I haven't done it but the head unit I put in has the option for it. I actually chose this model because a 355 I had looked at to buy initially had it and the backup camera installed.

The main ECU harness goes through a hole in the firewall into the compartment behind the passenger seat. From there you can get to the dash via the console easily.

Open that compartment behind the seat and you will see what I mean. Once you are In the engine bay, routing it to the license plate should just take some good planning I would think.

Bought one from Tadi Bros....haven't installed it yet, but plan to tap into the running lights at the rear of the car so the camera is on whenever the running lights are on, and it will help a bit while driving... since it has 120 degrees of viewing angle...there's an enormous blind spot on the 355.
Most tap into the reverse light to power the camera, but then it would only be on when in reverse. I will hook the monitor up to the wires under the lighter socket/ ashtray, and have a toggle switch on it., located at the empty slot in the console. The toggle switch I bought is the same exact size at 15/16ths. Pep Boys....its circular with a small blue LED to remind me to turn it off when exiting the car. I will keep you posted.
I'm not good at electrical things, so waiting for my friend to help so I don't fry something on the car.

Ok, Installed it last night. This is how we did it:

Bench-tested system on a spare car battery, all looked good.

Snaked the camera wiring harness through the holes near the bottom of the license plate. Hooked the power to the yellow (power) wire on the far-right rear running light so the camera is on when the running lights or parking lights are on via the button on the console. (either) Ground to black wire. This camera is wireless. We zip-tied the antenna-pack to the frame in the back.
    Next:
The monitor is wired to the AC fuse in the fuse box on the passenger footwell, so the monitor is on only when the key is turned forward or the car is running (again, key forward).
We snaked a toggle switch from the fuse box to the empty slot on the mirror-adjustment panel on the center console. Used a Dremel to drill and fit the toggle switch, so I can turn off the monitor whenever I want....(night-time, bright headlights can be distracting when flashing in the monitor I am guessing)

Not totally thrilled with the way the camera looks on the license plate, but having it is great given that I no longer have much of a blind-spot problem while driving, and I won't ever run over or back into anything. I even like the way my new toggle switch looks...as if the factory put it there! I chose blue to match the paint, but they are also available in red, yellow, and green at Pep boys.
And yes, some of you will notice my ashtray plastic is broken. I saw this on another 1997 as well.

Good luck, it wasn't too difficult, but snaking the wire under the center console wasn't easy. We used an antenna from a Ford Explorer, and some masking tape. Yes, it worked. Odd, but it worked. You have to unscrew the cover at the end of the center console, (covered in carpet, next to the gas pedal; two screws, very easy to lift.)

Currently working out a ground problem where the engine skips a beat when the running lights are turned on or off. Will keep you posted.

I'm in the process of installing a Tadi Brothers system on my F430. However, I opted for the 7" monitor that clips onto the rear view mirror which acts as a mirror when off. The on/off switch is on the monitor. My rear camera is connected to the license plate light (both positive and negative to avoid using the frame as a ground). In Canada, we have to have Daytime Running Lights so i use my parking lights. Therefore camera is powered with igition on. I ran the video cable under the car into the luggage compartment and then through the through into the cabin. The front camera power circuit is tapped into the side marker wire and its video cable is routed into the cabin. At this juncture, I still have to mount the monitor and stuff the wires down behind the dash. So work in progress.

    Disconnected it;
I never figured out the ground problem. Why would the motor skip a beat when i turn my running lights on? Or off? Or shut the engine bay lid?

Tape a squirrel to the bumpers. Use painters blue tape instead of duct tape as duct may leave residue. Chittering says you are close. If you hear a loud sqauwk...you've gone too far.

Planning to do this but wondering of the heat will melt the tiny cable? Where to pass the cable from the camera to the cabin? Or to the battery power in the engine bay if I choose to go wireless?

Im going to eliminate the wireless portion of mine and connect the monitor and camera via a video cable.
The ground/ interference problem is there still, where the motor skips a beat when turning on/off the running lights or opening or closing the engine lid.
I cant figure it out, but am assuming the FM frequencies are interfering with the ECU. Maybe its a ground problem.
I'm lost. So is the installer, who I consider quite knowledgeable.
