Just thought i would ask if any other F-Chatters have been to barcelona for the GP?
I'am going this May, i have tickets for grandstand F (first corner). There is 8 of us going, and we are camping at the track, which i've found in the pastto be the best way to get the full atmosphere of the f1 experience, if the weathers ok!
I'am just wondering if anyone has any advice or can answer a few questions.

What is the camping area like? Are the facility's ok? and how big is the site?

What are the prices for food/beer like? I have been to a few f1 race's in europe and the prices have all been about the same, but i know spain is generally cheaper then most other euro country's, is that true at the gp?

    Cheers

    Chicko,

I attended the 2002 Spanish GP. First off, I have to say you have the best seats. The first corner is great. Not only do you see the first corner, but you can also view the back section of the track. To answer your questions, I have no idea on the camp site. I was staying in Barcelona at the time. As for the beer and drinks, prices are a bit cheaper. The only other Grandprix prices I can compare it to is the Monaco GP. Of course food and drinks in Monaco are going to be alot more expensive. I hope this helps.

    Cheers Vivek,
I did a bit of searching about what seats to get, and all of the advice i read was saying "try and get tickets for F", so it's good to hear from someone who's been there, agree :)

How did you get from Barcelona to the track? did you use trains? if so, could you tell me how long it takes to get from the station near the track to the track? i have read its hour walk on some site's other's say 20 min's. We are flying into gerona and plan on taking the train to the track, but might rent a car if looks like a lot of hassle.

    Chico,

I'm sorry I can't help you on the transportation. One of my customers invited me for the race and he drove us around. I did take a Taxi for qualifying, but that got really expensive. I have heard about the train, but I have no info on it.

Not been to Spain - it's too close to the end of school for me to be taking off. Did get tickets via FedEx today for Imola - I am ready to go!

The Spanish Grand Prix is a lot of fun. I was there a couple of years ago when the dollar was strong so the prices all seemed very reasonable. Much less expensive than Italy was last year. We rented a car while in Spain and so we drove to and from the track. No problems at all. Parking in Barcelona was not as dissicult as I had anticipated. While I did not take the train the station did seem quite a ways from the track. You will have a great time.

those are good seats, provided you are high enough up. no idea about camping facilities. i get to an from the track by taxi, the same guy usually meets us at the end at a pre-arranged spot. the prices are cheap for most things, but obviously at the track will be at a premium to town.
best thing to do is leave the track asap after the race, and get back to las ramblas and have a beer there. the weather is usually great and the sights are nice walking by too !

I was there last year. Didn't camp though, but stayed in a hotel in Barcelona. However I wouldn't hold my breath for the facilities (or actually I would...). I remember the restrooms at the track and they run out of toilet paper at around 11am...

The train is very convenient to get to the track.

Food and beer is not expensive at all when bought outside the track. There are numerous stands with cold and hot food and drinks. No problem.

1st turn is IMHO the best seat in the house. You see several parts of the track from that corner.

I have been a few times, but never camped as my Aunt has a place nearby. I have been to the campsite. I think it was in 2000. I know Irvine was driving for Jaguar at the time, so that's probably right. The campsite was very basic! It was a piece of flat, dusty, windy, land on top of a hill. I don't know what facilities are provided as the friends I was visiting had a motorhome.
The Spanish GP is great and I'm sure you'll have a blast!
