I am booked to go to the Turkish GP August 27th, I have made my own travel arrangements. Has anyone been and can you give any advice about getting to the circuit etc ?

I just got back from the Le Mans Series race there. If you rent a car make sure you are properly insured; even the streets of Paris are organised compared to what I encountered there. The track is very nice, the area around it isn't. It is actually quite a drive away from the interesting part of Istanbul. Do you have grandstand seats? The grandstand on the start-finish line has a great view of the final turns.

Yes I have grandstand seats bronze level on the long curve. I was thinking of taking a bus, I was interested to know what special buses may be available and where they depart from etc. And any tips about the circuit in general

There are plenty of busses, which seem to depart from virtually anywhere; including highways etc. However I don't know how they work and by looking at the state of them I doubt it is a good idea. Another option might be to use a taxi, but I am not sure how expensive they are.

The buses your talking about are different...Traffic isnt as bad as people say.. its not worse than any big metropolis around the world. Just gotta be careful thats all.

There is a shuttle service during F1 time. I dont know details. but any major hotel can help you out...

    Hope you have fun

I have been to quite a few big cities in my time and this is definitely different. It was certainly entertaining and I did not really mind it altogether. The difference between what I encountered and say for example Paris is focus; in Paris things are just as hectic, but I know everybody is aware of this and pays close attention, whereas on the Turkish roads I sometimes felt not everybody was 'on the same road' as I was.

This is what I wrote about it in my Le Mans Series report (http://www.***************.com/frame.php?file=event_item.php&rid=105):
