What does it sound like? Loud hammering? On my Harley it’s a real loud hammering when you activate the ABS valves with a device, during the bleed. I just want to know before I do this in the next week or so. I’m charging up my Launch now. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat.com mobile app
It's a humming noise. I've only ever needed to do it once on a car - normally the pressure bleeder will successfully bleed a dry system.
Okay thanks. I’m just doing the fluid flush because it’s been about 2 years since I did it last time. Ive heard differing stories about the necessity to activate the ABS valves to move the fresh fluid through them. All my other cars and trucks have ABS and those don’t get the valves actuated ever, nor do they get the fluid flushed more than every 5 years or so. I keep an eye on the moisture content with the pen type moisture checker. Anyone else wanna chime in? Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat.com mobile app
You can just use motive power bleeder and then make a few short stops on a patch of road with sand or leaves to activate abs Sent from my moto g power using Tapatalk
Yes I’ve got the Motiv and the Launch, just never used them together at the same time to do the brake fluid. I’ve used the Launch to flush the F1 fluid a couple years ago. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I recently pulled an ABS module off an old Landcruiser and one of the ports was dry (see upper port in the pic below). I'm not sure how it it happened, since it has over 200k miles there could be a variety of causes, but if an air bubble gets trapped against the module then I don't think there's any other way to get it out than to activate the ABS while flushing the system. The module in the pic had a fluid flush (pressure bleed and manual method with a helper) just a couple of months before it was removed. The 360 is different since I think the stability control system uses ABS/individual wheel braking along with engine interference, so if traction control or regular ABS is somewhat regularly activated it may be sufficient. My concern would be the cars that are driven slowly/infrequently and let this module and all its pistons/seals sit inactive for years on end. Regardless, I'll be activating mine later this year when I do the brakes. For new cars I would activate the ABS on a dirt road as mentioned above before every fluid flush to exercise the module and at least get somewhat fresh fluid circulating through it. If I’m using the Launch to flush the fluid, will I still need the Motiv to pressurize the system? Sorry I may have misunderstood, but your post makes it sound like the Launch will move the fluid through the brake system. Is this correct? Or will I need to pressurize the brake system with the Motiv, then activate the Launch, then open the bleeder on the caliper? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I'm currently rebuilding my ABS Unit. I don't believe my scanner will allow me to bleed the system. I'm torn between simulating power to the pump, since theoretically the valves should be open, or taking my car out in the muddy/snowy yard [emoji41] Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my toilet using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I know my Launch X431 will trigger the ABS valves, one by one, because I’ve seen the prompts when I was playing with the Launch several months ago. I’m just not sure if it’s necessary. There’s several step by step YouTube videos on how to do it on my Harley Roadglide motorcycle, and Harley says it’s mandatory to keep the braking system operating correctly. If the launch actually connects and works ..you don't need the motive Sent from my moto g power using Tapatalk
If your launch works with it, send it. It should have an abs bleed option. Once that is completed, bleed the brake lines to make sure any air bubbles that were in the abs unit get flushed out. Sent from my toilet using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Ok Dom, I’ll try it when I have a chance and report back. When I pressurize the Motiv I’m always afraid the hose is going to pop loose and spray bake fluid all over my paint. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
The valves are cycled every time you turn on the ignition. It's part of the self-test routine on modern ABS systems.
Ahh, that helps a lot. I was thinking that old brake fluid is trapped in the valves and the valves don’t move unless the ABS is activated. I may just be using the Motiv, it’s easy and quick. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I’m not sure, sorry. You can email their support and ask to be sure. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I'm so used to using forums for everything I sometimes forget I could just email the manufacturer. Motive just got back to me and confirmed 1109 is the correct part for the 360.
Is there a way to bleed the ABS module on a 360? I have a launch, but I think the bleed function is only for F430+
So theoretically if I have the pressure bleeder pressurized and cycle the key, the valves will open and bleed any air.... Sent from my toilet using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I'll have some idea soonish lol I just got the abs unit rebuilt and about to go back into the car. Sent from my toilet using FerrariChat.com mobile app
