I just received a 1:43 Ferrari 312B3 GP Spain 1973 built by "Pitlane43" and sold on ebay by 43handmade. The model is based on an MG kit (not the greatest) but the paint and details on the model are terrible! I will be touching up much of the paint myself to make it presentable.

These models come out of Uruguay. I paid about $219 USD including shipping (6 weeks!) for this model which I could have built myself and had it come out as well as it did.

I did a search for Pitlane43 and found that the do sell upscale, very expensive 1:43 models with great detail for $799 USD or so.

    Did I get a fake?

Even the display case is home made out of plexiglass - why? when you can buy a BBR case for $5.00?

On top of everything else, the model was taped down too tightly when shipped so it lost the rear wing, oil radiator, and left fron wheel assembly during shipping. There was so much tape used that the complete display case was covered in sticky tape 'goo'.

I would like to hear if anyone else has heard about this model building company or this ebay seller.

It´s sad to hear that, so the auction didn´t had any good hi res pictures of the details?

that´s why I always ask for hi res pictures of details before bidding in any auction, because I bought 2 F1 replica helmets, one from brazil and one from argentina, and they touched up the pictures in phothoshop to cover the issues in the helmet.
    sad story my friend.

I haven´t seen them here in mexico, and I doubt in uruguay you can get them as cheap as you do, maybe it´s the reason why they hand made it.

    OK, here are the photos:

41 shows poor painting on the radiator and exhaust
42 shows poorly fitting windscreen, poor mirror finishing (posts are visible inside cockpit) and black paint "runs" around the headrest
45 shows another view of the crooked, poorly painted radiator and exhausts
46 shows the mounting base (homemade) and the "label" which is a stick-on type printed on a printer.

This could be a really great model if a little more care was taken in the details. The body paint is fine. I will be repainting and modifying the little details to acceptable standards.

Here is another example from 43Handmade (Pitlane43) on a 1987 Ferrari F1-87. This is their own photo from ebay. Notice the gray paint smears on the body near the radiator! If you buy from them, be prepared to touch up the model yourself!

Here is another example from eBay. This is a 1989 F1/89 which isn't too bad...except notice how the windscreen is attached (or isn't) in their photo. My point is that if you are going to charge BBR-like prices, you should build with BBR-like quality and details!

Much the same experience here. Ebay via 43Handmade, I bought 1985 156/85 Italian GP/Johansson on Tameo kit, arrived +3 weeks to OZ, more tape than packaging and broken wings front/rear. Detail not quite as bad as your example, but no where near good enough for the price (I paid US$169). I tried them out as they advertise that they do a lot of older F1's and I have just started to try to put togther a representative collection of each year of F1. Looks like it is back to reliable suppliers like Miniwerks!!

Here's the link for a 2006 Ferrari F248 as raced in San Marino:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Dirty-Ferrari-248-5-M-Schumacher-GP-06-Tameo-1-43_W0QQitemZ280222667084QQihZ018QQcategoryZ223QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247

Too bad Ferrari didn't run Marlboro livery in 2006 at San Marino!!!

It's also a "raced (dirty)" version, but I think the "dirt" has been a bit overdone! At least the "dirt" will probably cover any mistakes.

Other than those obvious errors it's a real bargain for $379.00 USD when you can buy a factory Tameo or BBR for about $199.00
