I highly recommed the salt system. I have a Zodiac LM3 unit from Clearwater systems, and have not had any problems for 2 years. Maintenance is low and the water quality is great. I would never go back to chorline.

I had mine installed for about $1,200, including the unit cost, but you could probably do it yourself.

Very nice information on here. I have a 550-580 gallon hottub and we were thinking of going salt water with it. Anyone know the approximate cost of doing so?

    Thanks,

    Brian

Its 6x6, 2x2, and 1x1 inch tile. The deck and water fall wall is 12x12 and 18x18 tavertine (sp?) marble.

Cost a fortune but I love it!

    Love it!

What is going on in the photograph on the right - trying to figure that out. Is that the floor at the infinity edge?

Like the 6x6 pattern very nice touch. I bet that was labor intensive.

Here are a couple pictures of my backyard conversion. Was a leaking pool. So built another pool inside the existing shell w/ gunite (sp?) 7hp pump from a 6 inch line to a 1 3/4 tip - depth is 3.5 feet from end to end. Limestone cap w/ concrete deck. Now it is effectively a fountain you can swim in. Will have to convert to reflecting pool as I'm concerned once my kids become teenagers and the folks are away one of their idiot friends will dive in.

Yes, it is what is on the other side of the edge. So you are looking at an outer wall and the hot tub. Completed tub is in the pic.

    Love the fountain!!

I would have been happy with a garden hose coming out the pool but my commercial landscaper is an over the top kinda guy.

Regarding yours - where did you get the inspiration for this design. I've seen infinity designs that really don't go anywhere but making use of the vertical wall as a secondary area w/ the hot-tub is magnificient. Talk about what goes on beyond the fall stays at the fall. wow! Do you recirculate the water from the bottom of the fall back into the pool, tub or both? Where did you locate your equipment in relation to the pool? any pressure issues? And do you use the salt system in the tub?

    Thanks

The water going over the edge goes to a small pool that serves as sort of a moat around the hot tub. From there it goes back to the pool. The hot tub can be filled from this moat and that provides a great way to cool it down when and if it gets too hot. The tub measures 15x8 ft, so it is pretty much a mini pool in it self.

The equipment is below the deck of the pool proper deck on both sides. 10 pumps, 3 filters, and 4 heaters. (One winter I got the whole pool up to 99deg F. It was fun but hard on the gas bill!) Essentially the pool is an above ground pool in concrete and steal as it goes down a hill.

does the salt provide any discoloration or cloudiness to the pool if the ph/acid aren't balanced?

What form of heat are utilizing?

Did you work w/ a concrete shell or gunnite?

No the salt works great and I have actually never added acid at all. There is a company that comes and services the filters and a few other things about every 6 months and they may do it. But I dont.

Heat is by 4 "mini-max" heaters.

The pool wall is reenforced concrete with a gunnite covering about 6 inches thick, then a waterproofing layer then the tile. in all the wall is about 2 ft thick.

There are some construction photos here in this thread:
