I'm looking for a gift for someone. I am not familiar with what is great or what is not so great. He has quite a collection, but very little of it is displayed. He even has two tracks above his barnyard garge where he enjoys racing them side to side even though they are not that fast.

However, I'm wondering if there is a unique/rare item out there that I should be looking for. I'm not looking at spending big bucks on this, but looking for some pointers. Even used, if you have something, let me know.

Depending on what scale he's running, for HO, I love Athearn trains. Great selection of engines and cars

My wife's youngest son collects trains. We went to Allied models yesterday (the world's biggest model train store, in West Los Angeles) to get a birthday present for him.
