Just curious if anyone's checked out the new track yet. They just had their open house and first member track weekend recently.

A couple of weeks ago, I decided to take a drive to the new and not completed MSR. WOW!! I had watched the progress of Kim and Jerry in getting the track idea implanted, the financing, the construction. Both receive high fives for their dilligent efforts in making this a reality. Ok, with that said, let me tell you my impressions of the track. Remember, the facility is still under construction, not all of the buildings are up, but the track surface appears to be 90% complete. They were missing some of the curbing and the run off areas are not complete. The track is approx. 2 miles long, it can be broken into two separate tracks, with 1 being approx. 3/4 of a mile and the other being the longer circuit. There are lots of twisties, a couple of straight aways and one elevation change that is notable. The track appears to be very challenging, both for the novice and the more experienced. There will be a water feature between the 2 straight aways and at the end there is a hairpin curve. The track is cambered at the turns and should be very entertaining for either clockwise or counter clockwise driving. The surface has several undulations in it and there is a joint where the machine laying the surface was only so wide. I am not knowledgable enough to discuss the material that makes up the surface. I drove the track in a VW with 2 passengers and did so in a manner as not to cause distress to the rear passenger. The track is going to be a lot of fun as the turns are more than adequate for a wide range of driver skills. I understand that a separate skid pad is under construction for practicing spin recoveries. There are large mesh covers for protection from the elements, there is one building up and several under construction. The initial building will house the main office, a meeting room, botique and have room for leasing space to either mechanic shops or for self storage.

The drive there is 288 south, 288 south, 288 south. Seems like a long drive, but then it was the first time there, sure it will seem short after driving it several times. I seem to remember that it's 30+ miles from downtown Houston.

Guess I should say that I am a member and would like to encourage anyone in the Houston area to consider joining. The facility can only get better and those that wait will find the cost becoming more so as time goes on. I believe that the facility is going to be first rate and that Kim and Jerry will make this a premier track for owners of cars that want to find a place to explore the limits of their autos. We all know that the streets are not the place to explore those limits, the back country roads are becomming the place to be for law enforcement, so where else can we "play" with our cars in a safe, ticketless environment.

And that's my 2 Cents worth.

Thanks for the description. Sounds like a great track. I'm still undecided on whether to join. Will they be having any other open houses in the near future?

I'm still thinking about it. Very tempting to be only 30 miles away from a track.

Dude it's flat all the way from the Astrodome to Freeport!!!!

I shot the survey elevations in for Hwy. 288, same numbers, mile after mile!

They moved some dirt for the track, should be good! That's why they did the lake, I'm sure......
