Nope. The car touched 301 kph for a second on the long back straight. That's the fastest it went. 301 kph is 187.033 mph
Future owners thoughts (yesterday he was going on about 6:40 rumor - comparing to AMG GT Black Series, GT3 (half the price) and a GT3 RS, $100k less(?) >>> not accounting for real world adm. ) Fast? YES, very fast. ........ $300+ fast? ummmm .... >>> annnd GT2 RS and ZR1 incoming .
Well, per Ford- 202. Maybe top speed, theoretical. I’ll look for post. edit: from Ford website, screen capture. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well, it's going to take a LONG, FLAT straight to hit 202 In the Nurburgring video, the car touched 301kph (187mph) for a split second. In fairness, the back straight at the ring is hardly flat.
10 months ago > wishful thinking @ 5:00 (sell the dream ) question is, could they pick up 10 sec. on a 'perfect' day? .
I’m not sure what conditions were - seems alright to me based off video. Keep seeing people say it wasn’t ideal? Fastest times I’ve seen on track were overcast, ambient temp not hot…. kinda like the video. Would like to see a no excuses attempt.
^^^ I'm with you. I've watched the video 3 times, the track is clearly not wet, looks to be in fine shape to me. Is Ford actually complaining about conditions or is this the fan boys making stuff up?
I think it is message board BS. But just came across this quote “The team behind Mustang GTD took what we’ve learned from decades on the track and engineered a Mustang that can compete with the world’s best supercars. We’re proud to be the first American automaker with a car that can lap the Nürburgring in under seven minutes, but we aren’t satisfied. We know there’s much more time to find with Mustang GTD. We’ll be back.” - Jim Farley
I'm surprised Farley says they're going back for more.... I don't see any way they can get close to the outright production car record and the car is sold out anyway. These ego trips cost a LOT of money for negligible real world return. GM had the production car record back in 2011 with the C6 ZR1 (Jim Mero driving) and that car didn't set the woods on fire, sales wise.
I think they can get GT3 RS and AMG black series (old versions- low 50’s) https://fastestlaps.com/tracks/nordschleife Edit: can we talk about the noise it makes… proper
Personally, I think sub 7 min is pretty stellar. But, doesn’t feel like “beating Europeans on their own turf.” Sub 6;50 for the amount of yapping and the cost seems more in line to me. I think it’s “cool” and “awesome,” etc, etc at sub 7 min. Car is a bit outrageous, which is most importantly “fun,” so I’m thrilled to get one. (I’m a dinosaur/luddite- I don’t want a hybrid, and I don’t like touch screens)
That lap was in August. It was hot and had also rained so the track was mediocre but it was not from the pouring rain day in October. I always thought it was insane to talk trash knowing you were banking on one good day of weather in a notoriously fickle October. Well, I think it's insane and undesirable to do it period. They knew they had the sub-7 goal in the bag with improvements to the car and better conditions in hand but how did that work out? Now they have to go back and blow $$$ to prove the car is faster than that.
815 hp car slower than a Gt3rs 500hp. That tells us cornering speeds prob way off. On a smaller real world track like the glenn, that 800 hp is going to have an even harder time clsing the gap. Given all the cool suspension etc in this stang, not to ,mention the hp the times should be in GT2 Rs territory. Either way very cool very fast car
296 GTB ran the Ring at 6:58.70, with a non pro driver (although super good), and it's a regular road car with AF pack. GTD is basically a race car. https://www.motortrend.com/features/2025-ford-mustang-gtd-trick-suspension-damper-window-design/ https://www.motortrend.com/files/65a453702936a70008a96869/033-2025-ford-mustang-gtd.jpg
I don't believe either of those run the full circut. Back in the day i think Nikki Lauda was happy to break 7 mins in the 312T
800 plus hp, multimatic suspension, tons downforce, etc doesn't matter when overweight. Hard pass on gtd even if eventually gets ring faster than porsche
They would absolutely destroy any production car by a WIDE margin. For the sake of comparison, it's easiest to look at production car records versus F1 or LMP1 times at circuits that are still in use by those series. The fastest production car around Circuit of the Americas is the Hennessy Venom F5 with a 2:10.9 lap, and the race lap record for F1 was set by Charles Leclerc in 2019 in the SF90 F1 car at 1:36.1, with the LMP1 lap record being 1:47.0. The fastest qualifying lap for F1--which is closer to what manufacturers are trying to accomplish with their Ring times--was 1:32.0 by Valtteri Bottas in the Mercedes W10 in 2019. So the difference between the fastest production car ever and the F1 lap time is 38.9 seconds over a 3.4 mile (5.5 km) track. The Ring is 12.9 miles (20.8 km) in length.
Well, email tells me they will reach out to start the process in February-July, 2026. Probably actually get the car late 2026. I prefer being at the end- time to fix any issues, perhaps get some more options.
