My wife and I are thinking of driving from Toronto to Chicago. But we are also thinking of heading to Vegas from there. Is it a nice drive and is there lots to see along the way?
Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

From Chicago to Las Vegas there is not much in the way of scenery until you get a good distance into Colorado(around the denver area if my memory serves me correctly). If you drive through Utah like I did you will pass right by Arches National Park which is worth a look at. It is a pretty easy drive though.

I've made the trip twice, but always took the southern route through NM and AZ.

Not a bad drive (other than ice storms in OK), but Kingman, AZ certainly is a craphole...

Yup, pretty much nothing scenery wise until you hit Colorado Or Wyoming, depending on what route you take. Haven't driven to Vegas, but in 2006 I took 80 all the way out to Napa Valley in an E46 M3 with 3 friends. Pretty incredible trip to say the least.

The 70 mile stretch rode into Vegas is staright like an arrow and smooth like space. You forget you ride on it. So black that it disappeared. Colorado is where the action is at. Dubuque, Iowa has very little scenery. Then haystacks and ghost towns.

If you haven't already driven thru Chicago, then I recommend a hotel like the Peninsula as it is centrally located just steps from Michigan Avenue and all the shopping/boutiques that Chicago offers. If you or your wife seek couture clothing then don't forget Oak street which is 4 or so blocks north of the Peninsula. Great restaurants abound. PM me if you have specific cuisines you seek. The Peninsula also has a great "chocolate bar" with nice(not too loud) jazz band on the weekends. Some 25 or more restaurants within walking distance from the Pen. (I live part time across the street from the Pen). Anyhoo, enjoy your trip. Have any clothing or trinkets shipped home and tell them to hold items till a few days till you get back so that you will be home to sign for your new purchases. This will also mean your purchases are sales tax free provided Canada doesn't tax you for receiving USA goods. The boat tour is always nice. Pick the tour with the tour guide to list the interesting features and history of the buildings. Bring a windbreaker even if you don't think you'll need one. You can take the bus as it stops nearly in front of the Peninsula to all the museums for aprox. $2.50 Be aware that food serving portions can be excessive (which is why we grow them big here). Enjoy your trip and be safe.
