I ran across a turbo-charged 79 308 GTB that the owner states is factory approved and installed (lemans) that included upgraded suspension and wheels. The owner suggests that this was a 20K option back then. I can't seem to find any information. Does anyone know of this option or is this a joke?

Ferrari offered a turbo model known as the 208 in Europe. Apparently the registration fee was based on displacement, so they made a 2 litre V8 and stuck a Turbo on it. Never heard about any other changes to the car. No idea if any came over.

The vehicle that I looked at was the standard Ferrari V8 with a 308 designation so it would not be one of the 208's you describe, but thanks anyway. Here's what I was able to find on the internet. Apparently 15 of these cars were built between 1978 and 1985 but none were built in 1979.

"The 308 series also spawned some competition development using the model as a base. A brutal 308 based twin-turbo model was developed by Carlo Facetti to contest the 1980 World Endurance Championship. He called it the Carma FF 308, and while blindingly fast, it suffered from reliability problems, and the project was soon abandoned. More successfully, in the early eighties a series of 308 GTB models were modified by Michelotto of Padova, who have done a large amount of small-series competition development work for Ferrari over the years, to become rally cars. These were raced with considerable success in Italian national rallies, and also by the French importer Charles Pozzi, whose cars included back-to-back wins in the Tour de France Auto amongst their successes."

    The 208 was a V-8.

Yes, I've discovered the 208 is a V8...thanks. Apparently is was under 2 litres and the car that I'm looking at has the regular 3 litre motor with the turbo. I'm going to try and find an option sheet to see if it was actually an option in 79.

    Thanks.

The simple answer is no the only road going factory turbo cars were the 208, 288 & F40

There have been lots of aftermarket conversion by people like Koenig or Norwood, if there was an option (even with only 15 made) with more power and improved suspension, people would make a huge fuss of about them like Porsche guys do about flat nosed turbo's and turbo S's

You don't have a picture of the engine do you? That might help determine who did the install....but I don't believe it was ferrari. It could be someone paid the deal to get the 208 turbo parts and install them on a 308.

CARMA FF fitted with a pair of KKK Turbochargers

Didn't see indications 308 GTB Michelotto Group B or 4 were fitted with Turbo, nor the rare stunners that are known as 308 GT/M

Lancia LC2 used Ferrari purpose-built engine (based on 308) with KKK Turbos as well.

Sometimes broken English, but, the more, the merrier about the Lancia Thelma 8.32
