Chuck, I had never heard that story. Why do you suppose Ferrari snubbed the Bonds? I was an avid reader of R&T in those days and I recall that the magazine was rarely critical of Ferrari's race or road cars, or of him personally, for that matter. Jack
Here's a pic I just ran across of Chuck Queener meeting the boss in 1971. I must have been there; it was my camera! The other pic is of Franco Gozzi (L) and the dude who escorted us around the plant---can't call up his name, but maybe someone out there knows him. Jack, Mr. Ferrari was famous for NOT seeing clients. You can imagine the demands on his time from people who feel entitled to a meeting. Gozzi (and Brenda Vernor) worked crazy hours answering requests of folks like me so not seeing the Bonds didn't surprise me. I can't remember if they (John and Elaine) bothered to write ahead which was very important in those days. Chuck Q
Thanks, Chuck. We're leaving for Italy Friday. We'll be in Maranello on May 11. Aside from the obvious (factory, museum, Cavallino), is there anything you'd recommend as a must see/do? Thanks again. Jack.
Write as many letters as you can, letting them know of your arrival and how important you are to them. Try to establish some sort of personal contact with an individual there. That way, maybe you'll have a chance of getting in. Remember, USA is their biggest market.
I just re-read this great thread as I did a while ago. I hope there are more people who can share some of these great stories.
During one of my meetings with Mr. Ferrari I mentioned that old GTOs were selling for $18/20k and he said that maybe they should make a few more. Now your looking at $20/28m. Chuck Q
