Anyone ever seen melted extenders before?

Strange enough I have heard many tales of melting extenders. The PO of my car spoke about it as well, and the tell-tale was a ticking sound of the spark jumping, so maybe they don't melt as much as that they burn.

Someone suggested the extender of one of the Merc 123-series works well: a lot less expensive as well.

Could it have something to do with water in the tunnels after washing? I always pull a piece of plastic over the engine and never had an issue.

Yeah, so I strayed a bit from the cause of these particular extenders going bad. Tie me to a pole and stone me

I checked this afternoon, and I have the hard NGK extenders. No sign of shrinkage, burns.

I have seen them in hardened puddles in the bottom of the spark plug well.

Often melts the plastic piece off the thermostat too.

Very unusual for it to cause engine damage on the V8's. Ferrari uses a very high quality alloy, good head gaskets and the heads are very well attached.

This should arrive as good news to you, if Brian aka "Rifeldriver" has seen it before without problems, I'd take rest with this...
