I was looking at the UTCIS-V unit, which replaces the warm up regulator in the K-Jetronics system and digitally controls the fuel mixture. Has anyone had ever tried using this item on a 308? It seems like an interesting idea.

The manufacturer web site is: http://unwiredtools.com/utcis.asp

OK, I have just spent 10 minutes pouring over the web link shown, and I am still confused.

Why would I want a sophisticated modern electronic warm-up regulator?

Once the engine is warmed up, does this thing serve any function?

What "flaws" during the warm-up process does this thing "fix"?

It's technical name is control pressure regulator, it does more than just the 'warm up' cycle. it's the 'ecu' of the system if you will. that's pretty slick and I've heard of this coming out for a few yrs now.

My 2cents is this, for a factory setup that you don't heavily modify it would be great, however with the cost and advantage of EFI I'd switch over to EFI. older turbo CIS setups would benefit mostly from this as they can upgrade the turbo and not have to switch over to EFI.

I'd equate it to a programmable EHV, on the later CIS versions.

The web site says this thing will read rpm and MAP...I wonder if you could pull out the mass air plate and have a slick FI system that LOOKs OEM and will pass CA smog?

Answering a few of the above posts from the little I know:

The advantage, besides digital reliability, is that you can program a map of the control pressure at differing engine loads. You can also program a precise warm up cycle that you want to use.

They offer another unit for use with turbo charged engines. The V model is for all normally aspirated.

I went to the Pegasus racing website. They have several discussion threads on their forum for people using this system on their Porches with CIS, and the feedback seems to be almost all positive.

I was wondering if anyone had tried this out on a 308 and how it worked our for them?

Don't think so .... the WUR provides some extra enrichment when manifold vacum drops by dropping the control pressure ... well the Ferrari ones do ... not all the WUR's have 2 vacum fittings on 'em.

But what someone could do is build a little closed loop servo to act on the CIS plunger (position vs. MAP or TPS) instead of making the barn door do it ... now that would be cool and not that difficult ... something else to kick around LOL.

    cheers

Really neat gizmo for the purpose intended though I think ... don't see why it wouldn't work on an F car.
