It was really quite strong here in Saratoga. Turns out it was a 5.6 w/ epicenter of Alum Rock/Almaden.
Strongest one I've ever felt (wasn't around in '89)

I think pretty much anyone that wasn't moving felt it. It was an up and down quake for me. Not a wavy/rolling one like the '89 one.

All is okay here - near the Valley Fair / O'Connor Hosp. area - quite a big shake, though! Nothing damaged, thankfully... Just a couple things fell off walls.

    Shake N' Bake.

A few more of those, I might even be able to dance with some rhythm.

I have to admit watching the wife and the cats running around the house was pretty halarious.

During the 89 quake, my friend's mom: "Ben and Nick, stop shaking the house!"

Felt it pretty good in Cupertino... all the chandeliers were swinging for a good while after the movement stopped.
Thankfully, I've got everything in the garage netted, tied down or bolted to the walls. Short of the ceiling falling in, nothing should fall on any of the cars.

Celling fan is my new tell all. And then I saw my brand new LCD tv move and I reacted.

And cause I have no shame.....this was a IM with a friend shortly after.

"I am siting here watching the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. and browsing through ikea.com. ..oh, and running outside in my boxers cause i am a lil girl after my tv stopped moving."

I was washing the dishes and heard an incoming military coper. Usually they fly really low as they head into Moffett NAS and shakes the roof pretty good so I was thinking " wow, they sure are low tonight... the ground's even shaking"... then my wife yells earthquake!!!! I get my daughter under the table. I figured this was the Calavares fault by the way it was moving. I've felt this on 2 other occasions. We'll see what they say tonight at 11.

    All I can say is " roller coaster.... I love.... :) "

I was out walking with my gf when we heard what sounded like someone rolling up a large metal door. We looked around, ended up confused, and went on.

My first quake but felt pretty big to me. I was in my baby's room feeding him. My wife was hanging out in there. All of the sudden the whole house started swaying and shaking. She grabbed the doorframe and I was talking her through it. Baby didn't bat an eye and never broke from his bottle.

Right after she says "Alright, we are $&*&*^% moving!!
I had been wondering when I would feel one. Only took a year of being here. Glad I was home for her and the baby.

It was interesting to say the least. Knocked a few photo frames over. Cats went AWOL under the beds and tip toed out looking freaked out about a half hour later.

Feeling during it was probably worse than staring at the tornados from my backyard in Wisconsin. This was worse. Although this was a pretty big one by the sounds of it. Hope it doesn't set the Hayward Fault loose for the big one that is due out of it. Or another one out of the Calaveras.

I was ordering food at a restaurant in Livermore. The ground shook slightly and ceiling lamps began swaying back and forth. Interestingly, I'm studying earthquakes in my geology class right now. My professor predicted an earthquake was going to occur soon. Looks like she was right. She and her colleagues are also predicting a massive earthquake from the Hayward Fault sometime in the near future. Perhaps this is a precursor...

    Tornadoes have warning sirens.

    Earthquakes have cats and dogs.

I pick tornadoes any day of the week.

Warning wins any day of the week.

I will so tell all your academy buddies! ;)

Honestly, while I would and have done the same as Rich, the new California building codes are some of the best in the country, and in 2007 we are adopting a new one (last revised in 2001) that is going to make construction even stronger. While any dodge against nature is exactly that, we are the best prepared sizemic area in the world.
