It was easy enough to find out that they share the bolt pattern, it stopped for me when I found that the hub diameter is 65ish to 67ish mm, so it appears without turning Volvo wheels to a bigger hub diameter it won't work (though the offset seems about right with 40 and 8 inch wide rims vs. 180mm).
Before digging into the hub diameter thing with Ford's, anyone maybe already did this and could enlighten me?
As to why...I like some of the designs and they are easily available.
Naturally it works the other way around

I should see if I can swap the wheels on my Mondial and my Mazda pickup (ford ranger) :D

I do like the look of both wheels. See if anyone in the family notices.

I have no direct experience, it just hadn't occurred to me that I might be able to swap wheels on my two vehicles.
