I wouldn't pay those rates for bmw either.
Bmw stopped being special about 10 years ago.

If that is the new normal, we are ****ed. I am comfortable but I said no these. Took the car to an ind and only did the battery for 40%.

I got a guy comes to the house. Will do any service EXCEPT swap out the transmission fluid in my Mercedes Wagon. Need shocks? Sure, he can do that. How about brakes? Yup. major tune up? Plugs and coils as well as oil change and a fluid flush? Done!! BTW that cost me about $300+ parts. I ordered the parts, he had no problem putting them in. he's $90/hour and does not charge travel time. He's a former service manager for a carmax, so he's been in and worked on just about any car 15 years old or newer, that you can imagine.

Also just found a guy that will come to the house and swap me new tires. Tires and install cost me about $10 more than it would have at discount tire, and I never had to leave the comfort of my living room. He also does wheel repairs and suspension work, so at this point I'm pretty well covered. He's a little cheaper @ $80/hour.

The numbers are crazy. Ford Dealership around the corner is at $170/hour.

Paid Honda $2,600 for a 100k mile service on the Ridgeline. Seemed high but the truck drives like new.

I just dumped 4500 into a FIAT 500 to get the AC repaired. Naturally, in stages -- if I had realized where I was headed, the car would have been sold first.

It’s getting like that anywhere that’s not a rural area. And even some of those. My dealership is $179 starting labor, 220 for fleet. Prices are way up too. I buy half of my own parts off rock auto, I know what brands to avoid and it’s cheaper than my dealer discount.

So if the shop rate is $200/hour how much does the mechanic make per hour?
