He's landed in Sri Lanka now and most of the way home back to Australia.

Coincidentally I happen to be reading book about Bert Hinkler.. eye opening stories, record flights, empire, public hysteria of the time and brilliant weaving of the threads of the dawning of the aviation era into a can't-put-down book.

No-one? No comment? I think he's doing a great job..

I wonder how many epic adventurers out there doing this and that trip and you never hear about it.

Certainly it's the case for motorcyclists.. a rugged bunch of individualists always off on crazy trips.. sometimes it comes to media and popular attention, eg Long Way Round - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia .. but nothing much seems to come up for planes in the same way.

I went through most of it...

Saw that he wisely decided to bypass Egypt.

    Great story.

I'm guessing there's a limited corridor of choice in that part of the world.. too far south there are wonderful places like Ethiopia and Somalia.. and too far north it's equally hospitable Syria and Afghanistan.

In the Bert Hinkler story I'm reading his record UK-Australia trip in 1928 he had to bypass Syria etc due to trouble.
