I bought some blank keys to make copies of my only ignition key. The ignition must have been replaced at some point as my key is a duplicate unbranded key (and I want the folding horse keys). The problem is I've called a few locksmith's and they all want to cut keys from vin #'s and NOT the old fashion way of duplicating from the original key. Anyone know where I can get this done? I believe I've seen that Home Depot has such a machine but not sure if they cut car keys? Any help would be appreciated.

I'd bet any locksmith could do it. Hardware stores and Home Depot also.

I called all the local locksmiths and they all says they won't duplicate my key because the car is too "old". Weird - as what difference does that make? I called Home Depot and they said no problem. I'd prefer a locksmith though as they cut keys all day long. I'll try some hardware stores next. I'd prefer a hardware store over Home Depot.

I got keys made for my 328 at a locksmith over in Morristown, on Ridgedale Ave. The place is right by the Nissan dealer. They actually had the key blanks for our ignition, and for the little key that works the door locks and the fuel filler cover. They cut the keys and made sure they worked on the car. Nice people and very cooperative. Here is their website:

I'm a licensed locksmith and both duplicate and originate these all the time.
