The photos look great and the mileage may be real. If the mileage is correct, it is so sad that someone would buy such a beautiful car and let it just waste away in storage somewhere. I would hate to see the expense the new owner will incurr if he decides to actually drive the car a few thousand miles a year! But, the a/c compressor looks to have been replaced with a rotary type. As far as I know all Boxers came with the York piston type a/c compressor. That being said, why would an a/c compressor need replacing in only 317 miles? And, whoever did the DOT/EPA conversion must not have cared too much about appearance by mounting the rectangular side lights in the upper aluminum part of the body rather than the lower fiberglass part. Who would cut holes in that hand hammered aluminum when you can cut the holes in the lower fiberglass panels which not only looks better but almost makes it much easier to fill in if the owner ever wants to remove them to bring the car back to full euro-spec appearance.

Could you order a new BB with an MPH speedo?

I believe UK spec Boxers as well as ones originally sold to other MPH countries would have came with MPH speedos. The USA is not the only country to use MPH instead of KPH.

My feelings exactly, but there was a reason for it. Depending on the inspector, different conversion shops could get away with some things and not others. The was/is a rule around the height of the side marker lenses which some shops were likely held to. I am particularly sensitive to this as my car is one where they were carved into the aluminum. What's worse, mine are flush with the metal, which looks a bit better, but creates a larger hole. To patch it will mean a repaint of both clamshells and attention to the inside surface as well to match.

I once spoke to a journeyman conversion guy who told me they would often try to place sidemarkers for various cars that came through below the fibergalss or fender, hanging from a bracket! That would be the best-case scenario for certain, as they were taken off minutes after the new owner picked the car up.

How do you document only 317 original miles? Get it notorized on a once a year 15 mile round trip to the post office?

Spoke with Symbolic on this car. Priced at $139K. Rats! Just out of my price range. About 10 years ago there seemed to be quite a few Boxers with plastic still on the door sills. This seems to be one of the last. Anyone going for that concours win?

    Hi Dave,

Maybe the plastic was there to keep people from using the sill-mounted ashtrays! Just kidding. Call me tonight or tomorrow night about next week.

I just called too, got the same price. They also mentioned that it is a 49 state car and not CA ready FWIW.

I was expecting them to say between 100 and 110. As soon as you start driving it, no more 139 or 110 or 100, just another Boxer. And it's not like it isn't subject to some of the age problems that can happen.

So what's it good for at $139,000, a living room center piece. If only I had room.

I guess I was lucky since my Boxer #42213 was converted by Trend Auto and the side lights were mounted in the lower figerglass panels which made the patching after their removal simple.

What do you guys think about the non-original rotary a/c compressor on this 317 mile Boxer? On a otherwise perfect car, why wouldn't the owner have the original piston compressor rebuilt if it needed it...but, why would it need it in 317 miles? My Boxer has 18k+ miles and the original piston compressor still works fine. It just seems odd to me and makes me question the mileage.

Dont know why it would be replaced on a museum piece like this. Rotaries make more sense on a driver. The way I see it, that should knock off $50K on the price. I'll see if this flies Monday, Or not.

I wouldn't make much of the a/c compressor, if the car sat for years just being started without the a/c turned on it could have easily seized.

I doubt the miles though, even Ferrari stated Boxer engines are not broken in fully until around 5000 miles so this car would not have had the rings properly seated yet.

My Boxer has 15k original miles thats low enough for me, if the miles are even close to real on this car it could have a mechanical defect yet to show that would have been covered under warrantee, not so today, not to mention the original paint thats going to begin crazing if it hasn't been repainted already.

It depends upon why you want the car. A couple of years ago, I brought a very low mileage 911. 1000% original car. I ended up selling it because I felt bad every time I drove the car. It really belonged in a museum. But I'm a driver and not a lover. So it really didn't work for me.

If you are a collector, I'd say jump on this car. If you're a driver, better look elsewhere.

My Daytona still has plastic on the door sills at 28,000 miles.
